Dropping down to FCS would be an incredibly idiotic move.

It would be a bridge too far. At some point the Power 4 will spin off and leave the G6 programs behind. It might be prudent to prepare for that eventuality but I would wait until they pull the trigger.

Conference championships are going to have very little influence on getting into the national  playoffs. It is going to be strength of schedule. We need to form our on playoff format. Have it be at home fields with the championship game at a neutral site. Let’s say UNT is in and has home field advantage. Estimate 30,000 fans at $25.00 equals $750,000. Let’s say the average spend is $35 that is over $1m. This would not include other revenue streams. Right now it is basically 0?

Some of these FCS programs average over-capacity attendance figures.

If we could get to that, would we even care what people view nationally?

I've seen quite a few FCS games were the announced attendance was much higher than their capacity yet there still half the seats in the stadium were empty.

We've already been to that level (1-AA) and it didn't happen.

When it happens again, it won’t be a choice. It will be because the Power 40 breakaway.

We just need to be able to play and compete with the next 60-80 teams. We haven’t done that very well in the last 45 years.

If the Power 40 breaks away, so be it.  Splits have happened before:  major college/small college,  1-A/1-AA, FBS/FCS.

But they can't just play themselves and all have 7 home football games every season that they need for revenue.

They won’t need to. They’ll make the NFL money from TV, then fire coaches every 3-5 years, like the NFL does. Wait until Hedge Funds invest in these Power programs—they will make as much or more than some lower NFL franchises.

Agree the Hedge Fund investors will add even more $$.

Also, the scholarship limits moving to 105 this year will make a big difference in theft of talent off G5 rosters.

I mean, it could see the same result. But the administration/vision across the program is completely different right now. First go-round was the admin literally telling the program we don’t want to support this.

with a different public message, not having to deal with NIL, and the increase in budget/facilities, why just automatically assume it wouldn’t work?

Also, if we are in the same setup with other AAC/MWC/pac/Leftbehinds, then I think it would be no different, support-wise. It’s not leaving I-A in 1983, where the SWC/Big 8 were dominating CFB rankings for the previous 20 years and we decided that playing Double Directional Louisiana schools and SFA and Sam Houston was just fine.

That we have any fans that graduated from here before  1995 is amazing. The school literally nuked the program’s support and made t-shirt fans out of our alumni.

NIL doesn't stop below the FBS level.   FCS players get offered it too, all the way down to high school level.

NIL is doable--the portal situation is the killer...and its not going away ever.

The portal situation will be solved when required binding multi-year contracts with NIL appear.  Then it will become the norm for elite players.  But schools will have to deal with their agents.  That will happen soon I feel.

Instead of one-year NIL, there will be multi-year deals offered to lock in certain elite players.  Eventually, all players will be on multi-year contracts.  It's the only way to prevent player theft that even the Brand programs are complaining about now.
