I've mentioned this numerous times, but once again, exactly HOW does every player on that team deserve $36k for usage of their Name, Image, or Likeness? 

Other than his family and a few friends, there's not 5 people that know what the 3rd string left guard looks like or even what his name is and his name certainly isn't being used to garner profits for any other company.  I suspect there are no pictures of him available other than various roster images, etc. in which nobody is profiting from.

The ONLY place his name or likeness might show up is in NCAA FB video game, but that might has well use "player AA" instead of his name. EA Sports (or whoever) isn't making money due to this guy.

This seems like the kind of thing the smaller schools might could start going after.  Force the disclosure and accounting for how NIL money is being determined and spent.  Again, it's even more preposterous that an NIL value can be determined BEFORE a player has even appeared with the team, i.e. his Name, Image, or Likeness have generated $0 in revenue (with the exception of a few top players that generate marketing buzz).

The reality is that money talks. They have it. We don’t. Our advantage is in enrollment and alumni, but they just don’t care about our teams, much less the university. We can’t compete with the money or the prestige of those power programs.

Every article I read about SMU references how much these billionaires remember the good ole days of success and how motivated they were to find that again. There's a sense of care that obviously anyone who posts here has, but the general alumni seems.... less than enthused. 

I think there are plenty of alumni who talk fondly about our 4 straight NO Bowls (even though we went 1-3) but I feel like those 4 years don't quite move the needle like the Pony Express did. I fondly remember during my years beating OSU in basketball and the 2 NCAA berths, but most of my alumni friends excluding @Jason Howeth could have cared less.

SMU was the first school to announce a pay-the-whole-roster deal. It let the world know that the Piggybank Express was open for business again and it fostered team cohesion. Those benefits seem worth paying even the bottom of the roster like an assistant manager at Subway.

I am surprised SMU had any fat cats left who cared about football success. The 1980s was a long time ago. But I guess what the Hard Line used to call the "cocaine and boob job crowd" in Dallas wants a winner.

You can't call it Pay for Play when they don't have to play to get paid.

NIL is an endorsement deal, like Walt Garrison making bank in those old Skoal tobacco ads. Except most of the time they don't even bother to make athletes do an ad. They just say "here's a big check for just being yourself."
