This! I understand the staff wants to continue recruiting high school players, but especially at quarterback, how much time and effort should we put into developing a player for another school?

I still think the best path forward for a program like ours is to balance what is done in the portal with offering higher level incoming freshmen (maybe not 5 stars, but 3s and 4s) the opportunity at immediate/early playing time that is going to become scarcer and scarcer in the P4, even if the idea is that the freshmen leave after a season or two.

I am good with this so long as you and others on here understand that if they can play they will be immediately gone.  No more building for the future at our level.  It is a team you build year to year. And if Morris has another mediocre season he needs to go!

As much as Littrell gets heat around here, his era's QB play really spoiled us. McNulty and Greer were here, what? About 10 years ago?

Please don’t tell me you forgot about Aune mediocrity and the slew of failures they brought in to try to replace him repeatedly.

And yet despite that, he holds the single season passing TD record for this program. The year before Fine, we would have all taken an Austin Aune. Again, we've been spoiled by that era's QB play.

We've also been spoiled by the quality of opponents,  which honestly, are mostly terrible

Correct. I'm not arguing Aune was a world beater. I'm just pointing out we've been spoiled since 2016. Ten years ago these are some of the names we were hoping would turn this program around at the QB position: Brock Berglund, Kevin Dillman, Caleb Chumley, Dajon Williams, Josh Greer, Connor Means, and Josh Cousins. Now we've got fans trashing a guy who had 3800 total yards and 42 total TDs in 2023 because it was at the FCS level. I don't know about you, but I'm picking this situation over what we had 12ish years ago.

Now we need to find targets for him to throw to and OL to block. Also, I hope EM has more than just screens in the playbook to call. It should be a really interesting spring to see who will come out as the top dog in the QB room.

He is supposed to be a good runner too.

I noticed that as well and intended to mention it.

At 6' 0", 208 lbs vs  191 lbs, maybe that 17 extra pounds is enough to gain 1ft at the goal line.
That's assuming we actually put him under center (once we get a new one).

Perhaps because of his injury history, CM didn’t run as much as he could have. It would be a nice added wrinkle if our qb would be able to pick up some first downs on the run. That could definitely open things up more.
