This! I understand the staff wants to continue recruiting high school players, but especially at quarterback, how much time and effort should we put into developing a player for another school?

Just like Reese Poffenbarger.

Thank you.  That was supposed to be my point, but I botched it.

A throw that stuck out to me was about halfway through the video where he throws it from his 15 yard on the left hash 40 yards down field to the opposite sideline and on target. Some really nice throws in this video.

This isnt a bonus of the portal, but a necessity.  Trading QBs every season isn't an upside, even if it is...uh...puffinbarger? Wtf...

Are we sure it’s not an upside? No way Chandler Morris comes here in a pre-portal world.

Also, decent chance we have better QB play from 2023-2025 than just about any 3-year stretch in program history. The only periods that rival the last two years are Fine’s 2017-2018, then maybe Maher and Ramsey.

Offense deserves some heat they definitely had spurts where they were completely non existent.   Defense won the final game to get us bowl eligible.

I was def needing to put “most of” in there lol

Where's all the boohooing over the portal now?

The “boo hoos” come when (and if) this guys hangs up big numbers and is gone in 2026….The portal without limitations on the number of transfers is a death blow to G 5 teams.

As much as Littrell gets heat around here, his era's QB play really spoiled us. McNulty and Greer were here, what? About 10 years ago?

It seems like we’re just gonna go get a one and done quarterback that leads us to a 5-7 record or 6-6 record. This is our future.

This got a lot of downvotes because it is wrong or the downvotes Hopes it is wrong?

This is great pick up!

I remember reading all the excitement when we picked up an Alabama backup QB who transferred here…..  He ended up being the backup here also.  🙄😂

Another Morris how ironic. 🙃

I am happy we can still get quarterbacks that have P4/P5 options.  But let us see him with the team in spring ball at least before we start swooning and dreaming of a conference championship.

These are entirely different situations. One was a career backup at Alabama, this one was a starter on an 11-win FCS schools and put up big numbers. If you're going to compare guys, do it right.

Yes big time FCS numbers guarantee (if you don’t get injured)  big FBS numbers on a winning team.  I forgot all about that. 🤪

Oh, and BTW let’s get all the details of the comparison.  2015 Alabama team were national champions, the 2016 Alabama team lost in the championship game.  2024 Miami missed their conference championship game and 12 team playoff while New to the conference former G5 SMU earned spots in both. 😂

The "Portal", which was initially setup as a mechanism to address various issues that players supposedly had when performing their ONE transfer isn't the problem.

We would NOT have gotten CM in the early years of the portal world either, unless the timing was just right suche that he could transfer here to play for his dad, either in his last year or if he (as he claimed) was burned out on FB, in which case he'd still be here.

But like most things, the Portal was simply the camel's first push of his nose under the tent.
In 2021, the NCAA dropped the "sit out a year" rule, followed by "unlimited" transfers in 2024.

THAT is what allowed CM to come here, use us as a reset mechanism and stat builder and them move on.

Once Fine left, Littrell couldn't replace him and the team declined.

You always have to be cautious when looking at a video of only a few selected plays over a couple of seasons against unknown quality teams, but no matter what, he's making some really great throws here.  Several nice passes to the sides/corners of the endzone and some accurate long balls.

EM has been great using the Portal to find Offense.

It's Defense that needs a LOT of new player infusion and scheme work.

He is supposed to be a good runner too.

We can complain all we want about Aune but he holds the single season record in TD passes. While QB play wasn't perfect after Fine left, it was a heck of a lot better than right before Fine got here.

I completely understand that. This is no different than any HS prospect or even an FBS transfer. Not all QBs can replicate their previous success in a new system. I'd still rather have a guy who was accomplished than somebody who never saw the field.

Every transfer is a risk no matter what. Your logic is severely flawed though. Cam Ward was once a big time FCS transfer and was just a Heisman finalist with that Miami team you're trashing. Joe Burrow was once a career backup on an Ohio State team that couldn't win the championship and look what he did. If you want to get even crazier with it all, Stetson Bennett was once a walk-on who then transferred to a junior college before transferring back to Georgia to win a couple National Championships. We can go on forever with this. We got a guy with success at the D1 level. More success than Chandler Rogers had. There's no reason to believe he won't work out here.

He has 1 year left to play....He will be hanging them up after next season unless he is able to land on a roster at the next level.
