Again, time will tell.  And at least he has a track record of success on the field at Albany...  But I like Jimerson.

The college game and speed is so different from the high school game (ask Todd Dodge).  Getting an experienced college QB is great for the experience and the mentoring to our incoming HS QBs.   You can't have too many position players these days!

If a quarterback we recruit from high school puts up Chandler 1 or Chandler 2 numbers at UNT, he's also going to be one-and-done.

This! I understand the staff wants to continue recruiting high school players, but especially at quarterback, how much time and effort should we put into developing a player for another school?

You would have to think that McCollum will enter the portal and try to find a place he can play. Drew M. will be a good 3rd QB behind Puffinstuff and Jimerson. Hopefully Morris can put together some packages using Jimerson in the offense next year to keep him engaged.

This isnt a bonus of the portal, but a necessity.  Trading QBs every season isn't an upside, even if it is...uh...puffinbarger? Wtf...

Yeah, I gotta' say, it's going to be tough yelling for a Poffenbarger (unless he turns into a failure, then the possible options are enormous).  I think I'll refer to him using Reese.

I don’t see North Texas ever putting another freshman QB on the field.  Except for an Alex Morris-Mason Fine situation, the transfer portal is likely going to be our source of “one-and-done” QBs.  And as El Paso Eagle points out, why put a lot of energy in improving a QB that will very likely transfer given the opportunity ?  We need a serviceable back up QB but I think the days of mentoring a youngster are over.

That's what caused the Wake Forest head coach to recently quit....

The headwinds of the current era of college football over the past two years at Wake Forest complicated how Clawson built teams. He'd redshirt players to have older rosters, and leaned on continuity and player development as competitive advantages. The inability to retain top talent financially, because of NIL and the transfer portal, has blunted the effectiveness of Wake Forest's edges."

Since I don't pay any attention to 99% of other college FB schools, could someone expound as to why he's leaving Miami?  Did their coach move on?

Apparently, he went to Miami after having great success in FCS, only to sit behind Cam Ward for a season as the #2 QB. Now that Ward is gone, why would he transfer to UNT instead staying at Miami?

I guess the expected answer is that EM is the "QB whisperer" but it seems like Miami isn't doing too bad at that either and didn't he factor in the level of coaching, etc. when he chose to go to Miami?

Why doesn't he think he'll be successful next year on the team that just finished 10-2 in the ACC with the QB putting up over 4100 yds?  What's to gain from coming to UNT?  It certainly can't be the NIL.

Not sure, maybe he didn't like the culture, school, or city?

Looking at Miami's current roster, in addition to him and Cam they have 6 other QBs listed.

Maybe Cam Ward had a hand in this?  I have zero proof, but it did come to mind that Ward might have spoken highly of EM.

I hope he adds about 15-20 pounds of muscle this off-season. He's a hell of a QB.

He will easily.  He is an early enrollee so he will have 8 months of Collegiate workouts and eating to get him where he needs to be.

I trust Morris to find a productive QB for his system. He has proven over and over again that he can do that. I what to know that this kid is committed to staying at least through next bowl season.

He only has 1 more season of eligibility left so there is no reason to think that he won't make it through bowl season.

A third string quarterback from Miami that’s on his sixth year of college football. I’ll save the judgment until we see him in spring ball.

An FCS all American that was supposed to be the starter until cam ward (another Eric Morris qb and 4th in the heisman) showed up.

That is great news, and should be our model for bringing in transfer QB's from the portal.

Don't totally disagree, however that won't bode well for the HS QB's they try and recruit when they look at the last 3 starting QB's being guys they brought in via Portal while developing the youth.  I really feel bad for most HS Athletes because of roster sizes and portal only the elite of the HS guys are now D1 where as in the past schools were taking guys and trying to develop them over a few years.  Lots of good FBS and FCS Kids will be playing D2,D3, and NAIA ball just because everything will spill over into the next level.

But he WAS listed as #2 QB.  That may have changed.

Definitely thought the other factors might be a factor.

So if he’s like Chandler Morris we’re good with another one and done quarterback leading us to a 6-6 record? There’s not a point of any high school quarterbacks ever signing with UNT. It seems like we’re just gonna go get a one and done quarterback that leads us to a 5-7 record or 6-6 record. This is our future.

I’m pretty flexible at the QB position. Defense takes most of the blame for 6-6

Offense deserves some heat they definitely had spurts where they were completely non existent.   Defense won the final game to get us bowl eligible.

I feel like I've heard this about every single transfer P5 QB we've ever had.

Time will tell, and Reese may start... but honestly, in Morris' system, I've got my eye/hopes on another guy.

Since he didn’t really play, I view this signing more of an FCS-UNT transfer.

When was the last time we had a P5 backup transfer in?   Ruder?  That was under Littrell…EM’s QB transfer record is not Littrells.

I don’t see EM fully relying on a True Freshman QB. He needs to win…don’t think 6-6 will cut it.

Also, it wouldn't be developing talent and then transferring out! Win-win.

Chandler came from TCU as a backup.
