its all about leadership at the University President and BOR level. Both schools have committed to moving up, while UNT is fine with status quo, decades of apathy can not be changed without help from the top levels.

I wouldn't bash Sam Houston St too much. There's a good chance our defense has a bunch of their guys next year.

No, no!  I'm not bashing them at all.  I'm just saying that they have a coaching staff that has moved Sam Houston St upward in a short period of time.

Why would you think NT is fine with the status-quo?

You can't spend money you don't have, and NT is spending about as much of the students as permitted.

Is NT doing everything reasonable they can to raise more funds and move up in the athletics arms race?  I don't know and I doubt you do.

UNT has moved up conferences 2 times in the last 20 years. Also if status quo was fine, Seth Littrell would still be your coach.

No, they "had" a coaching staff.   They are all leaving.   That's the way the coaching system is, win and get a promotion...unless you're Seth and turn it down.

True, they "had" a coaching staff.  Not long ago Sam Houston ran with the likes of Abilene Christian, Lamar, and similar Div 2 programs.  Was this their first year in FBS football?

Yes.

"Sam Houston State University's (SHSU) football team has been in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) since July 1, 2023. The Bearkats joined Conference USA (CUSA) on that date after playing in the Southland Conference for 34 years and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) for two years."

At the G5 level, it's all about finding the right coaches who can rebuild yearly now with the Portal and hit on a few high school recruits.

If some players do well, they are probably gone to a P4 next year.  If the team does really well, the coach is probably also gone.

It's a terrible era to be a fan right now.   Fans stay but admins, players and coaches are constantly looking for promotions out.
