We've shown over the last handful of seasons that we have one of the most suffocating defenses in the country.  I still think the defining game of this era was the NIT semi against Wisconsin when we held them scoreless the last nine minutes of regulation.

It really is remarkable how good this defense is. So many times MVS didn't get off a shot during their possession, or missed on a last second panic.

I laughed my ass off on some of those shots that hit the top of the backboard. 🤣

😂😂 Dude that one shot that rocketed off the edge of the top backboard was possibly the worst shot I’ve ever seen taken at the D1 level. It was comically atrocious.

When Brock Vice came in I was eager to see what he could do in the paint, and . . . he proceeded to jack up two 3-pointers that missed.  Oh well, overall I was impressed with how (relatively) polished the bench players looked in garbage time.

Agree on the polished comment. Ma'syn Howell and Tyran Mason look like great pieces for the future, maybe they get some more minutes as the year progresses.

Maybe it happens multiple times every game played by every team, but it seems like NT's defense forces this turnover type regularly against good and bad teams. Probably just selective memory.

The announcers talked about our defensive steals a couple times.  They showed a stat we're like near the top in D1.

But they also said, and I agree, an aggressive defense can lead to us getting in foul trouble.  Players are learning to use hands for takeaways without being too handsy and get fouls.  In the High Point game in the second half we sent them to the bonus with like 9 minutes left.

They said that’s his game. Stretch 5. Plays outside a ton.

Sure. But this wasn't the first game I have thought this about. My knowledge of hoops is limited and I try to stay out of posting on the BB board for that reason. "My knowledge of hoops is limited and I try to stay out of posting on the BB board for that reason."

This kind of sums up DeepGreen's knowledge of basketball.   But then again, my business career taught me to look at the bottom line.  Did we score more points than our opponent?

It was legitimately a worse shot than this. No exaggeration. I laughed half of the drive home thinking about it.

Number one in turnover effeciency.

ill have to look it up, I’m second guessing the category, but they definitely said we were tops. But also, because of that style of play, have to be careful about fouls.

On the telecast, they made if sound like that was part of his game and not so much his work in the paint.  He wasn't terrible, but his footwork was not impressive to me.  May be the rust from not being on the floor.

The only two players that didn't see the floor were Cotton and Smith.  I am assuming Cotton is hurt and Smith just isn't quite ready.  It would be nice to see Lorient and Sissoko take him under their wing and help develop him.

Regarding this team:

Lorient (Jr.): Man, he has exceeded all expectations and just seems to be getting better and better.  Hope we can keep him.

Massie (Sr.) and Floyd (Sr.): Does either qualify for an extra year or is this it?

Jossell (Sr): Love his game.  I am assuming he is done after this year since this is his 5th season.  Our most confident shooter at this time.

Wright (Sr.): Considering this is his 5th year to play, I guess he is a one and done.  Very different from what I expected.  Pretty shot, but not athletic enough to create his own shot off the dribble.  Stays within his abilities and quietly puts up numbers.

Mason (Fr.): He needs minutes.  This kid could be something really special.

Cotton (R-Fr): Really want to see more of his game.  Probably currently a level below Mason, but has the ability to be a double figure scorer.

Stone (Sr): Happy to see him get the "and one" last night.  That play really exemplifies his game.  His hustle on the defensive end led to that play.  Really wish he could have found his stroke the last few years, because I love his grit.  He tries so hard and is Mean Green through and through.

it wasn't a stroke that led me to wonder what the hell was he doing, though. I'll take a 6'10" 250 stretch-5 here, thank you.

Exactly. He didn't "jack up" some ill-advised 3s. He looked comfortable and the other guys looked for him around the 3 point line. Clearly a shot they've seen him make plenty in practice.
