Lol.   Dan McCarney =/= Bill Belichick.   That's funny.
Also, Dan McCarney was a positions coach at FL.    Bill Belichick was the HC of the greatest NFL Dynasty of all time.
It's not anywhere near the same.

Of course they're not the same human being.  My point was, just showing rings is a crappy approach to recruiting that is unlikely to be successful.

That said, at this point coaches probably don't have to be recruiters anymore.  As long as their schools' NIL collectives show up at recruits' homes with Brinks trucks, they'll do fine.

Yes.   The END GOAL for these kids (remember, the quote I replied to was regarding the 5* kids).    He was there.
Look at what Harbaugh was able to do at Michigan.   Harbaugh took over a 5-7 team after his 49ers tenure, and brought in quite a few 4&5*s immediately.

Cart before the horse. You can't win a super bowl if you never make it. He hasn't sent anyone to the NFL in decades, he hasn't won a national title as a coordinator, he hasn't had any top recruiting classes or players that he can point to and say "I helped him get from freshman year to first round". It's gonna be a disaster without huge NIL money bringing in players, and even then you still gotta coach them. And if he were still such a great relevant defensive mind then he would have gotten an NFL offer.

For Dan McCarney or any other "contributor" coach... yeah, I agree.
For arguably the greatest football coach of all time (lots of debate, I know), maybe not so crappy.

That personality meshing with 18-22 year olds makes me laugh. Can you see Belichick sitting at the kitchen table of some five star recruit trying to talk to his parents and relate to this kid?

I think he will have his GF relate to the players. She will be his translator.

i can't even see Belichik recruiting, much less trying to relate. he better hope his name brings in the talent, because i doubt he will personally do it.

He'll have his pick of some really great assistant coaches who will do all of this for him.    You're right.

this is either genius or really stupid.

All depends on who he brings for his coordinators and his approach to NIL

It is kinda funny they moved on from a 73 year old to hire a 72 year old.

I'm skeptical, but would be fascinated if he got something going.

Interesting factoid: his first coaching gig (per Wiki) was in Baltimore, 1975, serving as an assistant to then-HC Ted Marchibroda for -not kidding- $25 per week.

I literally just got back from the corner store, spending 30 bucks on a case of beer.

To be clear, i don't think he's going to run the program into the ground... i just think it will be more of what UNC has been... a lot of 7-5, 8-4 type seasons.

If SMU can step in, day 1, and win your conference... your conference is in disarray & is ripe for the taking.  Now's the time to gamble like this for UNC.
Kids today though are 'built different', and I really don't know how they're going to respond to a no-nonsense, hard-ass coach like Belichick.    If he gets talented guys who are willing to work without coddling, the sky's the limit for UNC.  If he's too hard on these kids, they'll bomb hard.

Didn’t Jim Harbaugh interview for our HC as well at one time?

Yes he did.

We also approached Jimbo Fisher and interviewed Jay Norvell and Tyrone Nix. Harbaugh also was interviewed by Tulane and Stanford.

Does anyone know if we chose Dodge over Harbaugh or if it didn't reach that stage (such as if Harbaugh wanted more money or was just doing the interview to sweeten the offer somewhere else)?
