Did an entire topic/thread disappear?  What gives?

We had some very inappropriate postings in that thread and decided it needed to go.

I think it was the thread about transfers f’ing off or something similar. Wasn’t the worst thing said on GMG but a pretty tacky thread. And I know tacky.

I stand corrected. That crappy thread still lives.

Possibly since he changed his avatar in support of a murderer.

I prefer "alleged revolutionary".

but don't worry...the picture is gone and replaced by something that could never ever potentially murder anybody.

Can't believe he murdered that boy scout. That CEO was on his way to save a bunch of children from a burning skyscraper too...

Not "alleged" anymore; they matched his gun to the shell casings.

Are you two sisters??

I not sure about sisters, but they are both cut from the same cloth. @Censored by Laurie supports a young man that decided to take the law into his own hands by murdering a healthcare CEO in cold blood thus throwing his support behind murder as an option for dealing with those he disagrees with

Funny how we know more about this assassin in 48 hours than we know about the kid that tried to assassinate a nominee for president five months ago.  Let that sink in and question why the media only does their job half the time

He and @Coffee and TV will throw out smart ass quips at those they disagree with. It’s how they operate.

Speaking of “bye bye topic”, this one will be locked and gone shortly.

true. gotta be quick here.

in truth, I'd say it's less "support" than it is empathy and understanding. I don't support killing anyone...be it a CEO, a President, a guy caught trying to pass a counterfeit $20, a guy selling loose cigarettes, a guy legally driving with a CHL, a mentally ill man on the subway, a woman just sleeping in her bed, or the tens of thousands killed by government supported genocides.

I've just found it fascinating how even before we knew the shooter we knew the motive. and many have shared my reaction. I think this trial is gonna be fascinating. good luck finding 12 people all ready to convict.

Obamacare was only a bandaid to the deep capitalist rot that has invaded health care and short of medicare for all in the next 10 years which is fully a pipe dream, you're only gonna see a lot more of this. The man is responsible for maiming and killing thousands of people who paid for and relied on his service, only for his company to be able to legally deny them, or force them into giving up after a long battle. People dying of cancer and families who can't get their kids treatment for seizures because of the arcane system that these rich assholes keep in place so they can buy another yacht. He legally got to choose who lives in dies so that his stock will always increase in price, setup an AI program to determine who was eligible for claims, and I'm supposed to be bothered that he got killed?

Healthcare is broken and has been for years.  Obama did some good things like getting rid of pre-existing conditions but he did that by protecting the pharmaceutical industries.  In turn, he allowed the insurance companies to morp into drug companies and here we are.  It is a tragedy for most families to have to pay $30K a year for barely catastrophic coverage.  I am sorry the UHC guy dies but his death has sparked a backlash against the profit driven insurance companies and politicians who cater to their lobbies.

In before lock!

First off, I will not excuse the Healthcare companies and foul practices, but It's also not a black and white issue either. I work in healthcare finance, so I see a lot of the behind the scenes stuff.

#1 issue is that all government paid healthcare (Medicare packages, medicaid, VA, etc...) usually pay below the cost of care. If we went with those numbers, we couldn't even afford to operate, so are forced to charge private healthcare (UHC, Blueshield, etc...) higher amounts just to stay afloat. If we didn't, you wouldn't be getting your treatments. That's the very horrible ballgame we are playing right now.

Private healthcare has a right to profit, it (should) enable growth, support, and eventually lower cost to customers. That's where they failed. They pocketed the cash and didn't give back. Same as price gouging in stores since covid. They won't lower them now that its lining their pockets.

Whole economy is f*cked at the moment, turning into an oligarchy. Glad to see we have a bunch of wealthy people soon the be running the country and certainly looking out for the little guys... /s

A lot of people show their irnogrant by blaming the healthcare system.  It is based on private companies that must make a profit or have a positive cash flow to survive.  How can they cover substantially more expense without raising their premiums?   Easy answer, they can't.

The fact that anyone is happy or not completely appalled by the murder of an executive working within the system that he didn't devise is frankly frightening.

If you want universal healthcare like many other companies, than get political involved and work for that result.  Than you can complain about what a crummy system it is, when you don't receive the care you want or the increase in taxes that would be necessary.

I think the focus should be on improving the quality and cost of medical care in the USA.  Certainly, not by violence; but making positive changes to the system.  Continue to expand use of telecommunications versus office visits, use of nurse practitioners, pressure pharmaceutical companies to lower cost, and continue to develop better procedures and medicines.

As an aside, what country is not ran by wealthy people?

There are numerous problems with the way healthcare is funded in the US, but I am so tired of hearing the above ignorant statement being made.

What is the NET profit margin of most insurance companies (and UHC specifically)?  Answer: around 6%

Here's the NET profit margin for a few others:

Target: 6%
Lowes: 6-8%
HDepot: 10%
DollarTree: 5%
Tractor Supply: 7-8%
Michaels: 35%
Walmart: 3-4%
McDonalds: 20-35% !!!!
