Action speaks louder than words.

Get with your new commissioner, get with the those folks at Texas State and the Sun Belt commissioner and all the others in the G5 and start over.  Form a new alliance, or get with Fox and sponsor a G5 National Championship tournament.

Any thing is better than what we have now, which is being relegated to remaining the Oakland Athletics of college athletics.  We’ll always be at the bottom of the barrel, and constantly develope players for the wealthier teams to rob from us.  Except instead of “Moneyball” we’ll always be “No-Moneyball”.

I'm not giving anymore to athletics until Jared becomes more outspoken about the state of college athletics and how the transfer portal has pretty much killed the G5. It's time for Jared to rally every other G5 AD and demand change or create a new system that promotes a level playing field.

Agreed.  I hear a lot of words from him but he gives me the impression he wants someone else to do the heavy lifting.

Be an agent of change.

Jared isn't going to do anything except hand out free Frito pies at the donor's meetings

At the very least, open the transfer portal up after bowl season.

I would actually be less embarrassed if we had to forfeit a bowl game due to 77 more departures than if we got smacked by Texas State. At least in that case, it'd be a news story and likely motivate the NCAA to do something for once.

I think the problem with that is the academic calendar and if they could get enrolled at their new spot soon enough.

I think you are going to see ESPN get involved in this. They basically run all of the bowl games and all of these players leaving will hurt the quality of the games and viewership. They are the only reason most of these bowls exist. Blowout games cause fans to switch to something else. Even hard-core college football fans don't want to watch school JV players have to fill in for the starters that leave for the portal.

When a player comes to us via the portal, I don't know why we are surprised and upset when they leave us via the portal.  In fact, I think that is now the goal and how we are going to survive (and thrive) and use this fact to our advantage.

Our strategy should be to target portal players that have multiple years of eligibility left, have talent, but have not had the opportunity to showcase it for that big NIL payday.  Since we will likely not be in a position to make those huge NIL deals our sales pitch and message to these athletes should be as follows.

"Let's be honest, you resume isn't complete enough for the payday you are looking for.  You are not going to get it from us (you will get something, but not the big one), but come here for a year, put up crazy stats (on offense or defense), help us win championships and we will help you get that payday on your next stop."

We'd be a one-and-done stop for many players, but I think it may be the only way for us to actually take advantage of the system as it's currently designed and I think it can be a successful formula.

It's in the D-RC Vito blog, but I can at least post Jared's quote here:

“Open portal windows and free agent movement before games are played no longer deliver the value for student-athletes, universities or fan bases,” Mosley wrote. “While institutions will always strive to maximize the postseason bowl experience for all, there is a lot of work left to fix or improve what many bowl-eligible institutions have already experienced with the wide-open free agency before games are even played. Let’s get to work!” (quote courtesy of Brett Vito and the D-RC)

Sounds like a cheerleader statement! Sorry!

Does Jared really seem like that kind of guy and AD to you?

I have not been impressed with his passive leadership and fan communications.

The reality is also everyone is losing tons of players right now unless they're one of the 12 that make the tournament.

I've been waiting to see how many players at the 12 enter the portal. It closes on Dec. 28. Waiting to play means entering the transfer window when there are fewer opportunities.

The whole thing is madness. As Lane Kiffin said today, opening the window before bowl games is like the NFL opening free agency before the current season is over.

A ratings decline is what I expect too, but last year's Orange Bowl drew the largest audience of any non-playoff Orange Bowl since 2017, even though 24 Florida State players had left before the game.

Not at all

Nothing against him personally, but he seems like the quiet type that would pass you the mash potatoes at the dinner table.

I’m not buying bowl tickets through the NT ticket office. I’m not paying $85-$100 to watch backups play. I’ll buy the cheapest I can find or look for free tickets.

It doesn't seem like he is that type of AD, but if he's looking to improve then he better start to speak up or risk losing more fan enthusiasm and revenue.

G5 ADs are in a no-win situation. They lack the resources and leverage to fight the "big boys." Jared doesn't have the clout, means, or juggernaut winning football program to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Chris Del Conte and UT, Big12 Commish Brett Yormark, or SEC Commish Greg Sankey.

We are North Texas... not Texas.

The NCAA won't even fight the "big boys".

I don't participate in NIL, but if I paid money for a player's NAME, IMAGE, or LIKENESS to be associated with my team, I fully EXPECT that player to be a PART of that team.

Should I be given a refund for a UNT CM jersey if he's not on the UNT team, or worse, wearing the jersey of another team?

This touches on another issue I have with NIL, the collectives/funds.
I keep reading about funds that exist at schools and are being used to bring in players.
How is the value of someone's NIL calculated if they haven't even been associated with the team and the player hasn't sold a shirt, appeared in a TV ad, or been on a poster yet.  Remember, those were the excuses we were given for why NIL was to be legit, i.e. OTHER people were making money off of their NIL and not them.

Cryptic message, but much better!  I sense some emotion and passion.

What change is he eluding to?  NIL, defensive scheme, give Vice some court minutes at post?

You hit the nail on the head! The portal is our new reality but what idiot set the transfer date after the regular season and before the bowl games? How many starters will Sam Houston, Marshall, or West Virginia have playing in their bowl games? ESPN is the golden cow, and when viewers refuse to watch the tier 3 games, which exist just to fill up air time, then we might see a change . However it probably won't make any difference. If the portal opening is the 2nd week of January instead of December those who plan to transfer will just sit out their bowl game if they have one. In my life bowls have grown from Rose, Orange,Sugar, and Cotton to a total of 42. I have a hard time believing that the tier 3 bowls will survive if the product they put out for the consumer is a joke. However I never thought Starbucks could sell bitter overpriced coffee with concrete patios next to a parking lot be a home run but it sure is so what do I know{ As a footnote,I wonder how many T.C.U. fans are attending the New Mexico Bowl to watch the Frogs play ULL?}

A little-known fact is that most of ESPN’s consumed airtime is actually my two dogs watching game reruns to settle in for their afternoon naps. They will happily watch weekday bowlgames regardless of which players are suiting up for the teams. They wouldn’t even care if one or both of the teams had less than the regulation number of players.

I rarely surf up near the ESPN channels anymore and was only there back when we had the ESPN2/U games.

Not surprisingly, I have heard of pickle ball which I assume is on EPSN, but in clicking around, I saw some other game that was essentially the same thing only a handball version.  There were like 6 people "watching" in person and ESPNxxxx was showing it "live".

I've been eagerly awaiting the upcoming playoffs of "paper triangle football" but know it's going to be a different game once they start allowing the use of index cards for the paper.
