It mentions in there that Texas State has also lost 5 players.....including a starting CB and RB.

Looked them up....Ishmael Mahdi, the running back....has rushed for over 1,000 yards. And Josh Eaton started at CB.

It's in the D-RC Vito blog, but I can at least post Jared's quote here:

“Open portal windows and free agent movement before games are played no longer deliver the value for student-athletes, universities or fan bases,” Mosley wrote. “While institutions will always strive to maximize the postseason bowl experience for all, there is a lot of work left to fix or improve what many bowl-eligible institutions have already experienced with the wide-open free agency before games are even played. Let’s get to work!” (quote courtesy of Brett Vito and the D-RC)

The Marshall coach left for So. Miss. after winning the SBC because school officials would not reduce his buyout in a proposed new contract. Today News reported that the entire team may go with him.

The ironic thing about Jared’s tweet is that it really is the passiveness ADs at schools like UNT is exactly why we are in this mess. The fact that they have deferred to the desires of the “big boys” for so many years instead of fighting them is coming full circle.

The Marshall coach left for...*reads again*...Southern Miss? A school that came in dead last in the same conference he just won, and a school that has one of the poorest athletic departments in the FBS, ranking No. 107 out of 110 FBS public schools in athletic spending?

Make it make sense. Why would Huff and many Marshall players make this move? What am I missing?

G5 ADs are in a no-win situation. They lack the resources and leverage to fight the "big boys." Jared doesn't have the clout, means, or juggernaut winning football program to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Chris Del Conte and UT, Big12 Commish Brett Yormark, or SEC Commish Greg Sankey.

We are North Texas... not Texas.

The G5 level of football has to have the weakest, cuckold leaders in all of sports. ADs, Coaches, and players all want to move up to the P4s, so they accept the crumbs that come with biding your time at a level that is clearly being pillaged by all of the monied programs that are in bigger conferences and with bigger budgets.

If you support this, you literally are wasting your money.

The reality is that the schism will eventually occur organically--schools like ours don't have any other choice. We don't have the $$$, we don't have the support, and we don't have the name to keep players/coaches here when they show ANY ability to produce.

The reality is also everyone is losing tons of players right now unless they're one of the 12 that make the tournament.  Schools like us lose many of our stars.  Schools like Alabama and USC lose their underclassmen depth they were planning to use next season now that the seniors graduated, etc. - which makes those schools pillage our the G5s best players or other P4 schools that are lower down the food chain.

As mentioned, the Marshall coach and the admin didn’t agree on a new contract (as I understand) so the coach decided to coach out the final year and take his chances. SoMiss swooped in and snagged him.

I can’t feel for them. One of the most arrogant fan bases we have encountered. I just wish it wasn’t SoMiss benefiting because they are up there too on that list!

I get that, but the G5+ ADs could band together and would have numbers. They just won’t. There’s nothing a single G5 AD can do. It would have to be a group effort.

There appears to be early signs of G5 banding together.

During his introductory press conference earlier this month, incoming AAC commissioner Tim Pernetti mentioned his league taking "big swings" that include possible private equity relationships and "maverick postseason models."

That says a lot of nothing.

Again, as fans, with NO transparency in NIL, we have no insight about what players may or may not be getting, staying or swayed into staying.   Do ADs and coaches even know what players get?

It's a total circus now.  Free agents telling players they can get them better deals, luring them to change schools, then as we have seen no payments, less playing time, end of football life for them, lol.  Buyer and seller beware.

Does that include Stone Earle?  He’d be on his 4th school. 😂

Unfortunately when it comes to voting power even if all the G5 stick together they cannot overturn the wishes of the power conferences. It's a sham system made to look like the G5 has a seat at the table. It seems most G5s are concerned that The power conferences could pull more of the money.

All of college football has become a mess. The FBS is now more professional than the NFL. At least they have salary cap and trading deadlines that occur at reasonable times of the year. The Portal is an issue beyond Mosley's pay grade. I can't fault him for that. But, the failing of our football program he has to own.

Action speaks louder than words.

Get with your new commissioner, get with the those folks at Texas State and the Sun Belt commissioner and all the others in the G5 and start over.  Form a new alliance, or get with Fox and sponsor a G5 National Championship tournament.

Any thing is better than what we have now, which is being relegated to remaining the Oakland A’s of college athletics.  We’ll always be at the bottom of the barrel, and constantly develope players for the wealthier teams to rob from us.  Except instead of “Moneyball” we’ll always be “No-Moneyball”.
