Its a numbers game. We need DL/LBs/OL, and then a QB, some WRs MORE than we need a RB. If 44 is healthy, we get the transfer RB from Missouri State, and the continued development of Sibley, new guy Hawkins it is a solid room.

He likely gets a scholly once they sort out the rest of the roster. But that probably isn't a great deal for him -- which is why he joins the portal. Its' really just checking his options. He wants to come back (sources) but this is the nature of D1 college football.

Porter was absolutely clutch this year doing a job he wasn't brought in to do. I feel he'll be back but is testing the waters. Looks like a guy who really just wants playing time considering he already spent 3 years getting minimal action at the P4 level.

If he returns, where do y'all think he is on the depth chart week 1 of 2025 after other guys get healtht?

The guys that were ahead of him to start last season are all gone.

Regarding Porter, we also have Grey coming back. Assuming the young players develop, it’d be tough for him to play. Wishing him the best.

They are converting Gray from QB. As of right now, I would guess he, Porter, would be in consideration for the two deep considering everyone on the current roster that wasn’t injured was behind him. I would like to see Sibley and McGill to continue to develop. Evan’s is the head scratcher to me. Not sure what the issue is, but he is far from what he was rated coming out of high school.

Have no idea what the HS recruit, Hawkins, brings to the table.

Forgot about Gray though he is a QB convert. Considering how many guys we lost to injury, I hope we don't become too thin at the position by him leaving. I'd also rather get Porter back than have some other guy transfer in since we know what he can do.

Guess he didn’t like seeing these new receivers come in

He was a Sr, also played at a Junior College. I think that he got an extra year of eligibility because of the rule change.

And they sure have been hitting these 3 positions hard in the portal. Feels like 3/4 of our commits are just these positions. Which I love.

Well, if he only makes one big play to help us win a bowl game, or conference championship game, or any game on our schedule that classifies as a "big time" game, then he has (IMHO) "taken us to the promise land". OR to use the newest football term "tush pushed" us into the promise land.....😎

And another thing. Please tell me the name of ANY RB in college history that personally took their team to the promise land. If you'll remember, we once had not one, but two, national rushing champions on our team. Neither of them took us to "the promise land".  Unless you consider the NO bowl "the promise land"

It distresses me to see the level of marginalization that is being directed at one of the most fiercely competitive, overachieving, players that ever put on a NT uniform. After reading all this, why should the other players on the team bust their collective asses for "good ol' North Texas"?

I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. The kid was 4th string on a .500 team. So you feel we shouldn't try to upgrade the roster, including running back? Why are you so defensive about this particular player? As though the majority of the kids on the team don't bust their ass? "most fiercely competitive, overachieving, players that ever put on a NT uniform". Really? If he felt that way and/or the coaches, he may not have hit the portal.

Kudos to him though, he followed his parents and a sibling to KState; where he mostly played on special. We had a need at RB and he moved over. Good story. I stand by my opinion that we need to always try to upgrade the roster at all positions.

As for as other NT RB's that brought notoriety to the program with their impact:

Patrick Cobb, Lance Dunbar, JaQuan Wilburn, Jeffrey Wilson, DeAundre Torrey, Kevin Galbreath, Antoine Jimmerson, Eric Pegram, Malcolm Jones, Bernard Jackson and Adeyi to name a few.

Glad he is staying for the Bowl.   This is how it should be done....finish out the "whole" season before walking out on your team and school.

I think the fact that he's playing in the bowl game shows 1) he just wants to play and 2) it just shows more of the drive and commitment that's gotten him to where he his.

I'm not gonna' fault him for leaving if they aren't rewarding him with a scholarship and especially if it looks like he isn't going to be in the main rotation next year.  That feels like "thanks for bailing us out, now go sit down."
