If I didn’t miscount, Tulsa has 23 players listed in the portal.

They had a coaching change, so it’s expected for them. The offensive defections here are a worry. Defense not so much with the new DC/scheme change

UNT has 14 players in Portal. Arkansas has 25, Tulsa 23, Marshall 22 so it could be worse. Also Stone who transferred  from North Texas to Marshall is on the move again.

Morris is getting paid $1M to transfer to Oklahoma State…we can’t compete with that kind of money! Good luck to him and break a leg pizano!!!

Outrageous if true.

I want to be in a position in life financially where I can throw stupid, generational money at my sports team with little or no guarantee of ROI...and be okay with it.

Is that amount confirmed by any reputable source?

I have never seen a reliable source for NIL figures.  Not sure you can expect an answer.  It's all handshake figures until a kid enrolls and even then, I don't think official numbers are disclosed?

Maybe they should start giving player generous bowl bonuses like they give coaches.

You might be onto something here. The payment structure could be tied to KPIs for student-athletes. To receive compensation, they’d need to remain part of the team through the end of the season. Afterwards is when the portal craziness opens up.

Yeah but it might be too late for that.  The media revenue generated by the bowls outside of the CFP have never been lower.  Now if they are getting a piece of the CFP money that might be a different story.  I just don’t see how the lesser bowl games make financial sense looking at the attendance.   Some of them will still remain somewhat important for their region but I pretty sure the “Plug in Large City’s Name Here” Chamber of Commerce will bend over backward get an event with less than 25k in attendance. (sarcasm if it wasn't clear)  Makes me wonder if a multi-use indoor venue capable of seating 35k for a football game near Winstar or Choctaw casino would be worth the investment to steal a “Servpro Level” Bowl.

Second highest rated recruit of Morris’ first class.

Meh, he ended up not being as good as advertised. He had a good offer list out of high school. I also heard he had some character issues as well.

Why is it that when certain players leave they get ripped up and down? Even long after they are gone. Yet others seem to be darlings of the program.

What are some examples of those who have willingly chosen to leave North Texas for another school and yet remained or become "darlings of the program"?  I'm drawing a blank.

Perhaps he is referring to Tylor Perry.

I thought Tyler Perry graduated...but had 1 year left...?

Tyler Perry is an actor. Tylor Perry did graduate and had one year of eligibility that he used at KSU.

Only one I can think of, Football-wise, is Riley Dodge.    But I think the circumstances for his departure were a little different... plus he finished out that season.   Most seem to look back on Riley fondly even though he transferred out to McNeese.

Riley wanted to stay even after his father was fired. Dan did not think that was a good idea.

That's what I have been told by those close to the situation.

Regardless, I'm not sure I see Riley as a "darling of the program."  At least on this board, I see a lot of mixed feelings about him.  When I think of "darlings of the program," I think of players like Mason Fine, Brandon Kennedy, Johnny Quinn, Lance Dunbar, Patrick Cobbs.  I can't think of a player who transferred out of North Texas who would be held by fans in comparable esteem.

Just more evidence that Eric Morris and company DON’T understand how to build a roster in G5 in the transfer portal era.   Looking at his bio it appears he put on at least 25 lbs since high school.  And now with that added weight, the speed/quickness that was good enough for high school has slightly decreased to where he can’t break into the starting rotation.

Who does???? Write a book!
