Seriously- who in their place of employment, when you learn your value on the market is higher than what you are getting paid , doesn’t look ?  Nobody!

Add to that young guys wanting immediate results and $$$$ , liking “stuff “ , then it’s a no brainer why they are leaving us in droves.

We need a camera crew following one of these guys at the end of the season and documenting how all of this goes down.  How they notified the coaches, discussions with their fresh out of college NIL agents, phone/email traffic from interested coaches and ultimately signing on the dotted line.

Hopefully this would include the illegal contacts made by coaches and accepted by players before the portal windows.

Maybe they should start giving player generous bowl bonuses like they give coaches. 🤣  I still find the outage and pearl clutching of player being mercenaries like EVERYONE ELSE making far more money from college football than the players comically hypocritical.  The greed of everyone else broke college football a LONG TIME ago.  The player are just now getting somewhat of a fair share and freedom of movement like EVERYONE ELSE.

I have a proposal that will go NO WHERE.  How about all the coaches salaries get rolled back to like they are coaching one of 130 amateur teams?   Everyone Coach, AD, conference commissioner makes below 500k.  Then we go back to players only getting scholarships and living cost of attendance stipends.  You know that will NEVER happen and we all know why.  So stop blaming the players for the system they did not create.

I’m sure we’re feeling a little disappointed with these guys leaving, but I want to wait and see who we pull from the portal before I grade this winter. Does Cassidy have enough pull to bring his defensive guys from SHSU? Does EM’s air raid offense still entice offensive skilled players? Is there a QB wanting to raise his stock and play here?

Honestly, Price doesn’t make much sense unless he isn’t slated to recover in time to compete for us in the fall.

I would hope that Porter is back to being the fifth string running back next season.

Absolutely.  And that’s not a shot at Porter.

It's a shot at his extraordinary effort. I don't think I've seen very many players at North Texas who were harder working and just plain tough. If not at RB, you've got to figure out a way to keep guys like him out on the field.

Is it a big loss if he could not even break into the 2 deep with such a horrid secondary?

He was our second highest rated recruit in the last class. I don’t think we are good enough to scoff at his leaving after one year.

His effort and toughness are admirable. Compared to his peers, he’s not all that talented. I’d bet all four guys above him on the depth chart would be more dangerous and productive if they had gotten the same carries as him. They got hurt, he did too, but he kept playing. Availability is the best ability.
I’d like to see more talented guys above him on the depth chart for next season.

He was recruited for the 3-3-5 though. Scheme may have something to do with it.

Just more evidence that Eric Morris and company DON’T understand how to build a roster in G5 in the transfer portal era.   Looking at his bio it appears he put on at least 25 lbs since high school.  And now with that added weight, the speed/quickness that was good enough for high school has slightly decreased to where he can’t break into the starting rotation.

If the guys in front of him were that much better than him then why did they tell them to go to the portal?

Yup.  I’d take 100 more just like him and his attitude he plays the game with any day.

Put more people like Porter in the locker room, with that attitude and toughness, and watch the rest take care of itself.

Not that we don't need talent, too.  But Porter is a great example of how sometimes those guys sitting 4th or 5th deep can still provide incredible value to the team and locker room.
