Loved everything about your post but I wanted to highlight this section.   I believe a lot of the fans on this board want to stick their heads in the sand and minimize the absurd mismanagement of the football program the last 20 years.   We have a ton of alumni locally that could be won over.

While a lot of what you said is true, I'm not convinced about winning over the alumni. Most were never interested in FB, or were fans of bigger schools, and many of the few that were have been lured away by the ESPN Minor League CFB system.

We let 30-40+ years of students roll through UNT w/o much of a FB program to embrace.
Worse yet, we spent a good portion of that time being a commuter school that was also significantly populated with students majoring in art, music, and elementary school teachers. While there are exceptions, a large majority of those students aren't interested in FB.

It's interesting that art and music majors aren't in the below, but maybe many of them never complete their degree or end up with a teaching degree focused in that specialty.  I'm kinda' surprised at the legal numbers.

Quote

The most common jobs for people who hold a degree in one of the 5 most specialized majors at University of North Texas are Elementary & middle school teachers (208,639 people), Other managers (178,715 people), Secondary school teachers (129,171 people), Lawyers, & judges, magistrates, & other judicial workers (128,803 people), and Postsecondary teachers (110,155 people).

Now that we're well over 40k, we're less of a commuter school and the number of students interested in athletics should be getting a larger. However, even if 20k of those were FB fans, as I mentioned above, many of those are  T-shirt fans of other big name schools.  They'd rather watch SEC FB on a big screen TV in their comfy room with cheap snacks and beer than personally attend a UNT game.

It will take some BIG wins over name programs to pull in many of the fence-sitting fans and students.  Like us, they want to brag on their school about a BIG win, and beating Temple by only a touchdown isn't it.

Ragsdale enters the portal……really? 4 games in 2 years and UNT probably paid tuition, room & board…plus medical care, pt rehab, all related out of pocket expenses…enough to get him on his feet so he could hobble over to the portal ! What suckers we are….

We wish him well, but one might wonder what team will want him….however, there are rumors that there is interest from Baylor…..Medical Center!

University presidents, boards,  athletic directors, conference execs need to unite and lobby for changes to insane portal and NIL policies…or G5 football will be toast!

If he ends up at another AAC school, then yes maybe it is time to shut the program down.

Why? Memphis has a large NIL deal with FedEx valued at $5 million per year. We're in DFW. How we haven't cultivated a similar deal with any of the 24 Fortune 500 companies located in the metroplex is an indictment on our leadership but it doesn't mean shutdown the program. Number 3 in the nation in volume of Fortune 500s and can't get a dang NIL deal...

Big wins over big programs who are having a good year, not beating an Arkansas team that finished 2-10. We need to do like Northern Illinois and beat a Notre Dame team that finished 11-1 and in the playoffs. Those are the wins that cultivate fans.

I've never supported the idea of shutting it down, but this kind of action is something that might finally start proving to me that we've only been dragging a dead horse around for the past 20 years with no chance of recovery.

It blows my mind that Peterbilt/PACAR has been right down the road for 40 years now and we have cultivated what?  Our leadership should push them to support us like Fed Ex supports Memphis.  I mean they only achieved quarterly revenues of $9.08 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023.

good question for the BOR and past presidents, they wonder why such apathy when the school does not try to engage the community

 You mean like this:

11/13/2024, Huskie Stadium, Attendance:  6795
11/30/2024, Huskie Stadium, Attendance:  5843

Following the Notre Dame game, NIU had two home games go over 18k in attendance. I went through every season back to 2016 and that's the first time they've hit 18k home attendance in any single game in 8 years. Their website doesn't show stats past 2016. Gotta keep winning though.

Like I've said before, Denton just happens to be the city that UNT is located in and they don't give a s#!t about the school.

In addition, I've suggested that we should be trying to pull in the whole Frisco region, making them feel like UNT is their team of choice since it is the closest one to them.  That area (and of course, the area N of Denton) is the primary future growth of the Metroplex, with it only being a matter of time before it expands all the way to Oklahoma.

I've also said that I don't really like the concepts of UNT-Dallas, UNT-Frisco, etc. (I don't know why), but maybe it's time we give UNT-Frisco a chance.

I know it's a ridiculous thought, but it wouldn't bother me at all if we packed up the whole damn place and moved it to Frisco, giving Denton the complete FU.  Yeah, I'd hate the loss of "home" that we all spent there, but give Frisco the chance to embrace UNT along with partnering up with (ugghh) the Cowboys and we'd be done with the stagnant apathy of Denton.

I’ve been told many times that they have zero interest in being a FedEx-like sponsor of UNT sports, that they don’t want to make Dentonites feel like they’re choosing to support UNT more than TWU and that they know most Dentonites don’t care for our athletic programs. That’s straight from Chamber of Commerce members, past and present.

Denton is the single worst place for a college football team to exist.
