A contract?

Rick

This is where the G5s and FCS need to go. Contracts for NIL, just like you have contracts for coaches. If you leave for the portal, you owe the $$$ back for the contract not fulfilled, including cost of attendance, stipends, and the remaining NIL.

The NIL is something this old guy doesn't like, but I get it and accept it. The portal is my line in the sand. As long as it stays as it is, my interest and support of the sport has dwindled considerably. I'm not alone--and my generation of men are the ones who have disposable income and resources that are now being used in different ways. College football had been trending in the wrong direction for me for awhile, particularly in value for money spent and time spent at a game. But at least I knew that the kids made a commitment to stay at UNT for the majority of their college career. Following Mason Fine was incredible as a fan. He is non-duplicable in today's world, as he would get bought by anyone else up the food chain after one season of doing anything of note on the field.

I recognize that the reality is that UNT and the rest of the G5s will just accept their place under the table of the P4s and fight for scraps and crumbs. And its why my decision to walk away from attending games in 2023 has been the best financial decision I've made in years.

I'm sorry but with his injury history, and currently not being able to throw it more than 10 or 15 yards, I cannot see this being at all justifiable.

But it's their money not mine!

Damn.  That is life changing money.  I cannot blame him for taking that.

If your screen name is true, can you start an only fans and use the earnings to fund some success?

Thanks,

Sad Fan

Fascinated by what Coach Dad Morris thinks.

How do you feel about a system that, by all coaches' accounts, has transformed the game for the worse....but just afforded your own son/family a mil?  How do you speak to the media about it now?

If they only get 6 wins with him like we did not sure Gundy can keep his job.

They need all the help they can get but damn, that 1 million could have went to Mensah from Tulane or Castellanos from Boston College or Maalik Murphy from Duke.

Thing is, if you are going to spend $1M on injury-prone CM, you definitely need to spend that much on someone else just as good too.  Maybe he plays, maybe he doesn’t. Plenty of programs have the $ to do it.
CM’s bio: Oklahoma, TCU, North Texas, Okie State…

My grandpa is spinning in his grave over what college football has turned into.

Sure, but after self-employment tax, medicare tax and income tax, it will be a lot less 🤣.  All this NIL money floating around has been a nice windfall for the taxing authorities.

Curious what his thinking is if he takes that offer.  Gundy just fired the OC and DC.  He’s got to have someone in mind, already, and wondering who that could be.  Maybe Chad?

If not, I think I’d be looking to try to drum up interest elsewhere if I were Chandler.  If his goal is to play pro ball, Gundy definitely has a track record for getting QBs a shot in the NFL, but they looked completely lost up there this year.

All this million-dollar chit chat is based on one internet post of unknown origin that probably didn't even have to pick all the squares with a bicycle.

know how much waste, bloat, and inefficiency is all through the institution and system. We could come up with $3,000,000 a year in wasted, unneeded, consultant fees and barely scratch the surface of what’s available. It’s not a matter of resources being available, it would simply be the will to allocate differently.

Loved everything about your post but I wanted to highlight this section.   I believe a lot of the fans on this board want to stick their heads in the sand and minimize the absurd mismanagement of the football program the last 20 years.   We have a ton of alumni locally that could be won over.  But the decisions made are insulting to the intelligence of people who casually pay attention when the program makes a big move.  I harp on Odus Mitchell because his tenure shows dramatically what can be done with hard work and competence.  And it is totally incompetent for program with upwardly mobile aspirations to hire first time FBS level coaches.  And what is worse when we do hire a FCS head coach they don't hire the best one available. Dodge, Littrell, and Morris were bad hires.   They may have been fine when it comes to the X & O of their sides of the ball.  We need marketer, Adminstrator and culture builder.   They selected the coaches I mentioned like a good functional Air Raid Offense would fix everything.    I attended at least 3 home game a year since the last couple of season at Fouts Field and the game atmosphere more dead now than ever in my opinion.  You can just feel the disappointment in fans.

There is no structural disadvantage here that prevents North Texas from being on par with programs like Louisville, Memphis, Tulane, UNLV, San Diego State, UCF, SMU or USF.

Legally you can do that without collective bargaining.  My hope is that we go to a collective bargained system were incoming freshman are only eligible to receive full scholarships with a cost of attendance stipend that is the average for all the universities in the state the college resides in.   After their freshman year they are eligible to transfer but two year contracts are available to them at that time.   So you can transfer get another one year athletic scholarship with stipend or get a two year binding contract.   Only medical redshirts are available for under contract players.  And their contracts can be extended for a third year on the year but the university is only obligated to at least give them full scholarship on the back end of a contract impacted by a medical redshirt year.   Once you transfer at the end of a contract you have to have 2 years of eligibility left to match the contract.   So a senior with 2 years of eligibility left cannot be released to be a "free agent" graduate student athlete under contract.   Either they payback the value of the remaining contract or they can be released at the discretion of the university.   I would go on with a few more minor details for graduate situations but already find this tedious.  Thank you GREEDY FBS MAFIA. 😂
