Might as well let the true freshman walk-on and that McCollum kid split starting reps at the bowl game and see what they can do.

The bar is already in Hell anyway, things can't get any worse.

Screw you for making me agree. But the bar couldn't get much lower after the exits today.

Honestly, wth happened with Cash McCollum? He seemed like our next hero QB and we've seen nothing but a walk-on backup...

I've been expecting to find out that he got his shoulder hurt and was playing with injury during the losing streak. He wasn't the same quarterback after mid-season.

This will be an issue for him. He is injury prone! No P5 will bank on that.

I honestly would be surprised if a single offensive starter with eligibility left plays in the bowl game.  This is why it sucks to be playing an in-state opponent.  We were always destined to be playing with the 2nd team offense and getting blown out.  That was going to happen against any opponent, so doing it against a school from across the country that we don't really recruit against would at least mitigate that damage.

If a player sits a bowl they should be banned from the NCAA. That’s a coward move plain and simple. Why would college sports want cowards? This should be an immediate consequence.

Not worried for next season. There's another p4 transfer who needs to boost his stock waiting for an opportunity.

Considering QB is the most expensive position, it seems a run first offense is the most cost effective way to be successful as a G5. Much cheaper and easier to replace offensive linemen/running backs than a QB.

Here's a photo of the top ranked schools in terms of total rush attempts. Every single G5 champion is in this photo.

About NIL, if you want the small people to donate $5-$10 per month, set up a web page with a live count monthly contributors and how much the monthly total subscription is. Show the small guy like myself that if I subscribe, it's not going into a pool too small to matter. If I a UNT fan went to the website and saw a live count of 20,000 monthly subscribers putting in $160k per month, they may decide to make that 20,001 subscribers. Going on the website, sending money, and having zero clue if it's doing anything will not entice new small donors. Netflix starts at $7 per month. You don't need a billionaire if you cultivate 20k small donors and it's much easier to lose a billionaire than it is to lose 20k small donors.

I don't understand the shots being taken at Mestemaker because he is a walk-on.  Didn't Georgia recently win back-to-back national titles with a walk-on QB.  And for me, walk-ons are the perfect antidote to all these "me-me-me" NIL whores.

It would be nice to hear the Head Coach or AD speak about these defections, their availability for the Bowl

Personally, I don't want to hear a word about them.  Let them go.  If they don't care a thing about my dear alma mater, I don't care any more about them than I do anyone else.

They were trying to preserve his redshirt no? Post season doesn't count for eligibility so it will be interesting to see if he gets the start.

You can still play up to 4 games before losing a redshirt now. We easily could be prepping him knowing that CM was going to bolt the moment the portal opened.

Really good points!  The NIL era doesn't have to mean the end of competitive Mean Green football.  There are available strategic moves that we can make, and careful roster management is one of them.  Transparent crowd funding is another.  If you look across the board, G5 conference teams aren't any less competitive than they were pre-NIL.  NT, however, seems to be a couple years behind the learning curve, and as a result, we're one of the hardest hit by the portal each year.  But, this is a fixable problem.

Nobody should ever give to the NIL and this is exactly why. We have the power. Not the players. They bring nothing without us and the school. Stop pandering to them. They take and take and take and give nothing. They run away. UNT should never have a NIL. Most people don’t like flushing their money down the toilet for nothing. Zero point in paying players who only care about themselves. They bring nothing to the table. If any of these players who are leaving took a dime of NIL they should be ashamed and held accountable.

You're a fool.

this is why I am hesitant to give to the NIL. I don't see the point if all the top players just leave.

Good to read some of our folks here  are finally waking TFU!

Its time for the G5 to band together and leave the NCAA to reform a new collegiate alliance or for North Texas to drop down to FCS with a plan to dominate it?

This is the reality now, for every team. Re-recruiting for transfers at positions every year. The staffs that are good at it will succeed. We just need people who are better at it than others at our level. It is a challenge, but also an opportunity. It can never be used as an excuse, cause every team faces it.

You beat me to it. I was about to say that UNT should put together a decent NIL package and try to get Preston Stone.

How often do people openly throw money away? Is this the new norm? I will happily take cash if you don’t want it. Since it’s not reliant on any stipulations. Send it my way. I won’t run away year after year so at least you know it’s consistent.

They're not running away, they're taking a pay raise.  If whatever industry you work in, called and competing company said we'll offer you a $100,000 pay raise, you would say no? I didn't think so, stop!! I would leave TODAY if I got a call and was told I'd make that, let alone what some of them are getting.  It is not throwing $$ away, it is giving in hopes that eventually we can use our sheer numbers to establish a semi competitive NIL.

We currently have jack crap... We will have half a mil this year to work with then revenue sharing will help a little.

Just not sure why anyone on this board B*&$hes and Moans then refuses to donate and help.

You drop down, your best players will still get plucked year after year.  They can provide the funds you can not.

We offered 500k and he still walked. Screw him, let him go. He came here to play for Coach Morris and rejuvenate his career, and that's exactly what happened. Zero loyalty. If I were the coaching staff I would focus the NIL money we do have on other positions and a) develop young QBs and b) get mid-tier QBs to transfer in here knowing that if they have a good season they will leave. Coach Morris has proved that he can develop QBs, and we as fans of the program have proved collectively we won't give the money to NIL needed to keep these guys, so it is what it is.

DONATE TO OUR NIL. AS LITTLE AS $500 ADDS UP. JUST THINK, 20 GUYS ON HERE GIVING $500 is $10k, WHICH IS THE GOING RATE FOR A GOOD PLAYER IN THE PORTAL/CURRENTLY ON THE ROSTER THAT IS/WILL START FOR US DAY 1 (NON-QB). TO DONATE, CLICK HERE: https://www.thelinku.com/donate/university-of-north-texas

Who said we offered $500K?

Because the whole system is flat ridiculous. Why should the fans have to directly fund “NIL” ie player salaries? These Universities- UNT included - have $600M+ a year annual budgets. Make the schools pay for all of this shit that literally no fans of any school asked for. Cut down the ridiculous coaching salaries and administrative bloat and pay the players with that.  The system needs to be changed fundamentally, not ratcheting up pressure on schools fanbases to be complicit in this nonsense.

There is no transparency in the NIL world. Just put $$$ in a pool and hope the Collective Leadership are effective sales people and good stewards of those funds? No thanks!

UNT would be better off if we could just flat pay players out of the University’s annual budget. It’s now a University Marketing expense. Problem solved for UNT and every other school out there.

It makes me wonder if they were nervous that CM would be injured, and were trying to preserve his redshirt even if was forced to play. But in general I agree, the last few coaches been extremely stubborn with giving minutes to backup QBs.
