I feel he regressed as our season went on.
His accuracy and control of the offense was too rushed and lacking in our losing streak.

Right, but UTSA didn't either. Then they did . . . because they raised the money. I'm just saying the AD, the collectives they work with, and our alums all need to get a lot better at playing this game. It's not a static reality that we now and forever will be bottom three in the conference.

This will continue to decimate a lot G5 teams. I predict we’ll eventually see schools cut their losses and start shutting down their programs because they just can’t compete in this brave new world.

If they're smart they will. Not really sure what the point of having a football program is anymore. Short of finally breaking off and having a new division.

Nope, you can't do that if the programs don't have any "business guardrails". And college football elite have shown, they have no interest in fair business practices unless a lawsuit forces them to. When everybody but the players started making more than all the Academic Department heads nobody cried it was unfair. Now the only "guardrail" that will be available for revenue sports will be making the scholarship players employees like graduate student teachers assistants. They will probably have 2 year contract and their tuition will be part of their compensation package. I think the average coach's salary will likely decrease. College Football Mafia is NOT interested in LEVELING the playing field. So whatever happens it is going to be an utter mess and still not very good for college sports. They want still reserve the advantage of being able to money whip players into transferring away from a "poorer school" to a "richer one". If players got big bonuses (just like the coaches) for playing in and wining bowl games maybe not nearly as many would sit out.

I don't expect shutdowns but it does make the FCS more attractive, as does the effort to create two superconferences like the NFL and leave all other FBS schools on the outside looking in.

Agree, it's just that we've been bad at this game for a very long time, decades and decades long. It has been historically hard to raise funds at UNT, be it for academics or sports. Trends that last decades are hard to overturn unless you are aggressive and really push for change, so again you are right, so why aren't we seeing that push? Until we do we won't change the trend.

Mestemaker has been the back up, but does he really give us the best chance to win? Cash showed what he could do in the spring game. He also won a state championship in high school and statistically one of the top QB's career wise to play in Texas HS football. Mestemaker has never started a game at QB in his life.

I think most with significant winning history will likely drop down to FCS or even Division II rather than shutdown completely. Hell if we could get 90% of the following teams: UTSA, Texas State, La Tech, Tulane, Rice, Texas State, Sam Houston, Tulsa, UTEP, Arkansa State, Louisiana (ULL), ULM in our FCS conference I might even prefer that.

He was not the starter his junior year. He threw 13 passes as a backup. And his senior year he threw 17 passes as a backup. He was the starting punter in high school.

UTSA has a giant advantage of us and others in the AAC. They are in a pro market with no pro football team, a huge city with a strong civic pride—like a bigger version of Fort Worth.

Denton will NEVER be this for UNT. You can try to make them do it or believe they’ll want to do it, but they’ll just disappoint you.
