Y'all,
I really hope our portal efforts are zero'd-in on FCS, D-II, & JUCO guys with a ton of experience/accolades who are ready to step up.   These are the kinds of guys that find success here, historically.

Any players transferring in here from FBS had better already have skins on the wall & a good story as to why they're coming.  And we would need to understand they're here for 1 year only, so as not to get too attached.

Fingers crossed that DT Sheffield sticks around, but I'm not holding my breath.

Talking to a friend that played baseball at a P4 school. They have back up outfielders making $30K to $50K. Starting infielders making $150K+. This is for baseball mind you. A "non revenue" sport. 

Think about what football players are making at P4 schools. Basketball players. The NIL money is beyond whatever we think it is. Not to bring up our friends to the south again, but this is why they have overnight turned themselves into contenders on a national level. Unlimited funds. 4 star DT can get $350K at Bama? They can pay $500K. Need $600K? No problem. How many positions? They can pay that at virtually every key position. There's no limit. Whatever amount of money it takes, they can pay it. The beauty of that model for those with means....the "costs" of building rosters isn't subject to typical business models. There's no "how are we going to make enough revenue to make this profitable." The costs are offset by alumni pride and emotions. There's no limit to the amount some of those folks will pay to win. $5 million roster, $10 million roster, $50 million, $100 million. Pay whatever it takes. 

Like it, don't like it...doesn't matter. This is the real world now.

It's not the NCAA's doing, it's the power schools that want this system. The NCAA tried to keep transfer rules, the P4 pushed for NIL, the P4 pushed for autonomy, the NCAA tried to enforce tampering rules and was shutdown by state legislators.

Oregon's NIL is estimated to be around $22M, and I'm not sure if that is just for FB or all sports. It's majorly funded by Nike and Phil Knight. They even do limited edition Oregon themed shoes that go fully to NIL, they have done 3 or 4 different shoe releases this year, and they have all been coveted by shoe collectors.

I think we really need to be praying that several of the top guys leaving SHSU's defense show up here with Cassity.
As for offense...   I really have no idea what we'll look like next year.  This is so crazy.
C.Morris gone (with no heir apparent, so we may see Jimerson next year!)
Will Ragsdale return?  If so, that's extremely helpful.  Evans?  Otherwise, we're really hurting at RB depth.
Conwright, Ward, & Rempert graduate, DT transfers...   We'll have Sides, Young, Carnes, & Coleman returning.  Not exactly a scary bunch.
Hammond was the only TE that could produce.
OL is going to look much different as well.
This is going to be an extremely critical next few months for Coach Morris & Co.

When NIL was first started......as you know it stood for "Name, Image, Likeness."

I wasn't against it. I think if any school made money off of a player's name, image or likeness, that player should get some $$ out of the deal. Like those Booger Kennedy  bobblehead dolls......or the Cherokee "UNT" t-shirts when Mason was here. 

But, now it's just become pay for play.

That's because it was never really about that, if it was there would have been heavy restrictions on how NIL could be used. Big schools were tired of having down years and rebuilding teams, so they instead want to buy the best players out there so they stay at the top every year. Everyone knew this would be the outcome when NIL was passed without any safeguards. Why do you think transfer rules have also been done away with at the same time?

The NCAA has the cover of following law made by the Supreme Court ruling on NIL/portal.

This is the reality of our situation. Can’t compete financially with the top 80 programs in the country, but can’t get interest from people to attend or support us playing at a level that befits our budget. As it turns out, only focusing on growing enrollment, while churning out degreed alumni who are not in high income arenas, and focusing on being a “value” and being apathetic to sports at the administrative levels does not help a program compete against schools we care about and have heard of…who knew?

Rogers was gone with no heir apparent.

Ragsdale isn't that good.  Evans barely saw the field  Our RB room is the same today as it will be next year.  Porter, McGill and Sibley should be back.  Harris will return from injury and Price could as well depending on his recovery and desire to play.  Evans had 9 carries for 63 net yards and 4 catches for 10 yards.  How do we ever replace that should he choose to leave?

WR's?  Dime a dozen.  EM will find some.

Hammond produced?  Dear Lord, I hope we can replace nineteen receptions for 238 yards and a TD.

I'm not so sure about that.

A lot of the guys who find their way out of state will often look to their High School coaches to get back closer to home if it doesn't work out wherever they went.

Not saying the guys who are going to get mega-paid are in that boat, but guys like Phil Hill last year, coming back from Las Vegas...
