This is a Great Opportunity, when we beat them it will show that we are indeed ahead of them as a program and institution, if we lose not so good.

We were an SBC team when we beat Cincinnati in the New Orleans Bowl and look at them now.  So maybe there is a faint silverish lining if we are not able to pull off the win.  Hahahaha.

From an historical perspective, I understand his sentiments. We were clearly the better program for a number of years.  They have continued to improve on the field and we have not. They're not a better program today; although their current day success. Rightfully or not, this is the same feeling SMU has had toward us, forever.

I've always felt, we are the un-luckiest program in the country in terms of elevating the program. We see signs on the field then regress. Props to Southwest Texas State. I can't get excited either thinking back to those Southland Conference days together at Fouts Field.

This right here.
We have a ton of people with big-picture blinders on, looking at this game myopically.

When talking about the actual competition on the gridiorn, CORRECT (sadly), we're not "above" them.

When stepping back to look at the state of each school's football teams... UNT left the SLC in 1996, and have spun our wheels, generally speaking, for 3 decades.
SWT left the SLC in 2012, and here we are, still spinning wheels, sweating a loss to a program we had an almost 2 decade head start on.

Lord knows we've had our own problems...we were snubbed for bowls two years in a row after moving to FBS and then proceeded to crap the bed for almost a decade under two different coaches. Our recent success hasn't come easy and we're grateful for the progress we've made as a program.

That being said I don't think any Bobcats think ya'll are above us (just being honest) and looking at the metrics you'd be hard pressed to find a more equal pairing of in-state institutions.

  • Both schools founded in the 1890s as teacher colleges
  • Both have 40k+ students and ~400k alumni
  • Both have respectable endowments (TXST has about $100m more in the bank)
  • Both have respectable athletics budgets (NTX spends about $10m more per year)

Looking down on folks is a funny thing...sometimes you're the pigeon, and sometimes you're the statue.

Yes you will find most of us on here have been supportive of Texas State and would trade you for those San Antonio bums any day of the week!  Love your campus also.

Thank you for the kind words. We don’t hate many things but those bums in San Antonio are at the top of our list.

Thank you for backing up what I said.   The mess is in our house sir.   We're the school stuck in neutral despite the head start.

Hope y'all have fun at the bowl game.

I'm looking forward to the game.  In-state bragging rights up for grabs and a good built-in storyline with the two head coaches going head-to-head.  Should be a lot of hype leading up to the game.  I know we have a couple games on future schedules, but it would be good to rekindle the series.  Give me an annual matchup against Texas State over the likes of South Alabama or any FCS opponent.

I'm not going to call this a litmus test for coach Morris, but it's pretty close to one.  His tenure has not gotten off to the start we were sold on.  In fact it's been pretty disappointing.

In two seasons, Morris has a record of 11-13 (.458).  Those 11 wins have come against teams with a collective record of 45-87 (.341).  His signature win is against South Alabama who finished 6-6 in the regular season this year, but did win their bowl game to finish 7-6 to become only the second team with a "winning" record he's beaten (FCS SFA at 7-5 is the other).  Ouch.

2 of the 11 or 18.2% of coach Morris's wins have come against FCS opponents.

4 of the 11 or 36.4% of coach Morris's wins have come against teams named Tulsa and Temple.

This is going to be an important game for coach Morris.  I hate to utter these words, but is this  an "opportunity" game?  If we win, he will get a little bit of a lift and goodwill for the program and his tenure so far.  If we lose or do so in embarrassing fashion, I think his time here is running out.  Of course, I don't know how we treat bowl games anymore.  They run the spectrum of meaningless exhibition games to the game that defines a coach's legacy.  Should be fun.

Should be a great turnout, who knows what will happen with both teams suffering big losses to the portal.

No way man, San Marcos would make for a great weekend road trip, especially for OOC in mid September so you can float the river but it's not 105. Have you ever done the glass bottom boat on the river? Geology rocks.

Geology rocks.  Yes.
Go do all of that fun stuff whenever we play the dirty birds.   They're already conference mates.
Or, wait until we get our house in order (if we ever do) before we expose our a**es as inferior.   Then, we can go down there & float the river/Schlitterbahn with the confidence that we'll also win the game.

I don't think we're above Texas State any more than we are South Alabama. I wouldn't turn down a home and home with any team west of Denton, except maybe Hawaii.

Coming from an STD Factory with no admissions standards, that means absolutely nothing.

There's a reason why nobody who's serious about football goes to Texas State. Can't even get guys drafted.

Imagine being so shitty at football, we stop scheduling you because an FCS opponent would be a bigger challenge.

Imagine being in a power conference and having a fan troll the website of a G5 that you don’t play and go to the website and troll all day…what an existence.

Shoot me if I’m ever close to being that pathetic.

Imagine one man having the pull to make an entire website react to his every single move.

Far from pathetic.

Let's not pretend like we don't all know why though, every other board would have banned you by now.

That's a typical low class Cougar fan response, I'd expect nothing less. They reacted the same way when we beat them in 2012 but of course he didn't post that score. They were actually throwing bottles and cups of beer on us from the mezzanine above after we won, real classy stuff.

But the biggest crime is a UH fan scolding another school about admissions standards and STDs. For those that don't know, UH has the unfortunate distinction of being located in the Third Ward of Houston, one of the most dangerous and unscenic parts of town, where crime runs rampant and the STDs flow like mad dog 20/20. Quite ironic actually.

I can imagine many things, but I can't imagine having to go to school in the ghetto or having a fanbase that's so thin that you're overshadowed by 3 other schools in your own backyard.

p.s. we've got a few Bobcats in the NFL sir
