One of the ESPN guys made the point that SMU should have been ranked lower a week ago. Putting them in the top 10 last week made it to where they had to be kept in after the 3 point loss.

And if we hate on SMU for getting in, we should also hate on Texas and Indiana.

Losing in your conference championship should eliminate you.  It’s not an “extra game”.  It’s a qualifier. This whole thing is dumb and a farce.  Couldn’t care less about which conference is better than another.  If it’s a playoff, then you gain access by winning your conference.  Not by losing it or not even making it to the championship game.  But we don’t have a real playoff.  We have TV rigging up some garbage.  And now they’ve let the devil himself in the room.  Dirty rotten filthy schmoo.

When they’re good, $$$ flow thru players hands.

When they aren’t good, they schedule us like we are their booty call. And we always come running to them, giving them money by going to their stadium, and always giving them a W.

I wish that were the case.  We would have loved to play them in the mid-90s through early-00s when they were terrible, but they were afraid of getting embarrassed.  If they only played us when they weren't good, I would hope our record against them would be a little better than 6-36-1.

They came to us when Phil Bennett was their coach and he needed wins to keep his job. So he scheduled two games in 06 and 07. He split with us, winning his only game as their coach in 07 against a Todd Dodge coached team. 
 

They scheduled us just after the Death Penalty for a 2 for 1 in 1989, where we gave them one of their two wins, in Denton in 1990 in front of the biggest Fouts crowd (pre expansion) ever that we won by a TD, and then lost in Dallas by 2 TDs in 1992. When we moved up to FBS in 1995, they were no where to be found, just as they stayed away as we got decent in the SBC early 00’s run. 
 

The only time we play them is when they want to play.

A team playing an extra game should NEVER lose their spot in favor of a team who couldn't make their conference championship game. Otherwise there's no incentive for playing the championship game if you're in the top 10.

Whatever this program is underachieving all on its own.  We just use “SMU backstabbing” as an excuse and while our program does things like bring back the worst DC in all of FBS especially if you considered salary verses performance as a metric.

Thank you.  We don’t have anything in common with SMU except being universities in DFW playing Division 1 sports and FBS football.  We probably should equally hate TCU but we don’t for some odd reason.  Maybe someone older than me can explain why other than the Haden Fry connection.

The system is backwards is what I’m saying.  It should not be setup so that a conference championship game is considered anything other than a must win game.  A playoff field picked by a committee is lame.
