I’d like to see Indiana in that graphic.

I think Indiana had the same “type” of path as SMU. They got pretty lucky with their conference schedule. Like SMU, they didn’t beat anyone in the top 25.

Don't lose by 21 at a .500 team.  Hell, if the Tide had lost by a single score, I'd give them more of a hearing....but to be housed like that to a mediocre team...I don't wanna hear anything about Bama needing to be in.

Yeah looks like that OU loss was the deal breaker. Horrible game.

But he’s not wrong

This isn't about right and wrong. It's just a bunch of jiggery pokery to keep the cool kids in the club, like Nick Saban's Alabama getting in last year because ESPN secretly knew he was going to retire. The Barcalounger crowd doesn't feel that way about the new coach whose name sounds like a Lethal Weapon villain.

Fair point that Clemson should be higher than SMU however, SMU getting in considering they were ranked higher before the CCG is the right thing to do. Precedent has now been set that you won't be penalized by losing the extra game.

One of the ESPN guys made the point that SMU should have been ranked lower a week ago. Putting them in the top 10 last week made it to where they had to be kept in after the 3 point loss.

And if we hate on SMU for getting in, we should also hate on Texas and Indiana.

Tell me how SMU is the 11 seed and the team that just beat them (Clemson, ACC Champ) is the 12 seed.

Clemson losing three games including eight days ago probably had something to do with it.

I'll meet you halfway and hate on Texas.

Lost in all this discussion is that with the expanded playoffs, BSU is a 4 seed.

In the old 4 team system they would NOT have been one of the 4 chosen.

Just more of a reason to eliminate conference championships. Straight 5 or 6 highest ranked regular season champs and then fill out the spots from there.

Hard to do that when these mega conference(Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC) teams don't play everyone.

It’s about the rankings.

You have to admit, SMU looked really strong in the 2nd half against Clemson. This game was also played just 2.5 hrs. from Clemson which is a little unfair. If the game were played in Texas Stadium, maybe SMU would win.

Well if they tried playing in Texas Stadium I think both teams would have a tough time winning.

SMU gets PSU

Which is great: sad Bama fans & they'll get smack silly in Happy Valley. A win-win for a hater like myself.

No. No. No. Stop. You reward one-loss Big 10 teams with a playoff birth. Period. These super conferences are gonna create a path for a team like Indiana every year where they may not be conference champs but they only got hit by one team that kept them out of the conference title game. Pretty soon we'll be saying that Bama or Texas got an 'easier' path because they didn't have to play each other.

Make it make sense.

SMU is in the playoff because of their “body of work.”  So, let’s examine that body of work.

They have played two teams that are in the current Top 25…and lost to them both.

In the final Top 25, they put SMU at #10.  I can only assume it’s because of how valiantly they lost to two teams that are ranked below them, #16 (ACC Champ) and #17 BYU.

Where is the body of work?

Do you think being ranked No. 8 a week ago meant anything?

Take the teams out of the question and a No. 8 team losing by a last-second field goal in a Power 4/3/2 conference championship game probably wouldn't make them fall out of the top 12.

I would ask you how a team with no wins of significance was #8 to begin with.

This was the pollsters and committee trying to pretend the ACC is relevant and being backed into a corner once they realized ranking them all year means you have to honor that.

Not our problem lol. I just know that if Boise State had lost, they'd have been out. If the AAC regular season champion is top 10 next year but loses the AAC championship game, they'd drop out and that shouldn't happen. Currently, only the SEC and BIG10 teams are protected. Every other team from the other conferences risks losing their playoff spot by losing their coherence championship game. It shouldn't be that way.

Bribes, that’s how.

And everyone here who can be honest with themselves and know that NT will never be able to afford to be a part of the charade should love it as the P4 tears flow.

The NCAA and the ACC have no idea of the level of the corrupt can of worms they have allowed to be opened up over in the city of University Park.

Exactly. SMU should have never been ranked that high. They backed themselves into a corner by ranking them 8.

The conference championship games generate too much TV revenue to abandon. They won't vote in favor of it because it takes money off the table.

I think it's more realistic to expect another expansion of the CFP in the coming years.

Money.  In the NIL era, you can't convince me money is not being talked about on that side of the table.  And SMU would gladly slide over to that side and show their hand, too.

Looks like Rick beat me to this.
