We ain't gotta make 40 threads about it, but same lol. If anything miami have a better argument if this result holds.

The CFP has to take the Top 5 conference champs (none have to be P4).   Would Army (11-1) be considered better than Clemson and Miami?

Clemson must pay their player's more than Smu.

No Clemson has been recruiting 4 and 5 star athletes for 10 years. SMU just stated. And they haven’t played anyone this year. They’re getting a top tier ACC team for the first time and they’re looking like the G5 that they still are. And they’re gonna get destroyed.

That’s not trash talking, it’s just true. saying all that, they may have more $$ behind them than any other ACC team  so I’m not gonna talk trash about them Anymore. they will be able to compete talent wise because they can outspend pretty much any team in the nation. They got super lucky with their schedule this year but ran into their first real ACC team and you see how it’s going.

But they will compete. They just have too much money.   pretty simple

No, the CFP spots will be awarded Sunday, before the Army/Navy game.   The Army/ Navy game is like an early Bowl game,  not a conference game or any game towards the CFP.

I don't mean for committee arguments I just mean in general to your question if they would be more worthy of Miami.

The game is beyond their consideration time.  If you mean, would it weigh if Army were to lose to Navy, well, basically no, all invites are given by then.   It could be said a solid win over Navy would ensure Army (12-1) should have been in the CFP over Miami.

The $mut coach before the Clemson game was preaching that $mut should be in regardless if they lose or not.  He said they could have backed out of the Conference Championship game at 11-1 ranked #8 and assured of a spot.  He was trying to say an extra game shouldn't determine if they are worthy or not since some believe Bama should replace them...but doesn't have to play the additional difficult game.

Even with a loss, SMU will probably make CFP.

Plus side is watching all that NIL money get nuked when the other teams do very disrespectful things to SMUs remains afterwards.

Many are saying Bama gets in with a $mut loss, especially a bad loss.   It's like loses at the first of the season are not as important as losses at the end of the season.

I disagree. If you’re the committee you have to build a good playoff. You know SMU has had a HORRIBLE schedule. And they finally get a real P4 team and they get curb stomped. So you put them in and they get blown out? Doesn’t look good for the committee. I would think “if I put them in does that look worse than not putting them in?” No. Don’t put SMU in and no one cares and most people think “yeah I agree.  They didn’t play anyone” put them in and it’s much more controversial.

If it’s between SMU and Bama. It’s pretty simple if you’re the committee.

“do I think SMU could beat Alabama”

100 out of 100 say no

I don’t mean this as being adversarial towards you, but this is the part of “the committee” that I don’t like.  It shouldn’t be based on who they think would beat who, but instead on what you’ve done on the field.  Alabama had their chances to make the playoff and they got beat by two 6-6 teams (OU and Vandy).

I get it. But Bama also beat Georgia and LSU there and S Carolina (who beat Clemson) and shut out a ranked Mizzou.  Would SMU be able to play them?

we could go back to computers and SMU wouldn’t be in the top 20.

I will admit that SMU has now left us behind. But I want SMU to admit their football program just now started with NIL. They haven’t done anything until now. When the playing field officially became uneven. Money wins. Only money. Nothing else.

They've (sadly) been on an upward trajectory for several years now.  It's just that money has given them that extra push, whether NIL or buying their way into a better conference.

Bottom line is that the SEC will get the benefit of the doubt every single time.  Even though, if you look at their out of conference schedule, they are far from dominant.

As much as I hate all things SMU, if they make it competitive with Clemson in the conference championship game--which it looks like they are--they should get the nod over Alabama even if they lose.

If they make it competitive?

When they were down big, as they were earlier in this thread, I could see an argument for leaving them out of the playoff.

But if they lose by 1 TD, as they are now, that's a lot different from a blowout loss.
