I hate that for Sam Houston.  Give guys a chance that most schools didn’t want and this is the reward.

If you’ll excuse me now, I just noticed some clouds outside that I need to yell at.

It would be nice if he was able to bring some defensive help .

Isn’t a little sad we are praying for defensive help from CUSA?

If they can help us next year, I don’t think it matters where they come from. We had P5 transfers not get any playing time, we had D2 transfers make all conference.

Totally agree, but we fans weren’t actively hoping for the “lower level” players to be our saviors the way we are talking about SHSU defensive players.

Curt Cignetti brought 13 James Madison players with him and has Indiana in the playoffs in year 1 of his tenure. Of their 31 transfers, 24 were from G5 programs.

Excellent point and kudos for bringing the stats!

Do you mean the conference we just left? What is more than a little sad is that our defense has been so poor that we should be careful being judgmental where players come from.

I think the point of leaving the conference was to be able to recruit better players than the conference we left, n’est pas? It has been two years and we are hoping the hapless CUSA will provide for us. It’s a little sad.

While I understand the sentiment, the guys he’d bring in will already be well-versed in the nuances of his defense.   So we’re not necessarily “praying for help from C-USA”, we’re praying coach Cassity brings in guys he knows can play his system WELL.

We hope he would do so. That Iowa St pipeline never opened up and the one guy well-versed in the system that came over couldn’t get on the field.
That being said, you make a valid point.

Some would argue our defense wasn’t even to CUSA standards.

Some would be correct. #sadpanda

Getting missed good players from lesser programs and conferences is the only way to win now.

Definitely. I cannot argue with that. Was really just commenting on the sad state of our defensive team/recruiting that we need so much help after two seasons.

To be fair, we brought in the IASt LBs coach.   Their HC & DC are still there.  Why would the really good players want to leave to follow the LBs coach?

In this case, the HC is going to Philadelphia, and the DC is going to Denton.
Why stay for a new staff @ SHSU if you know you’re a baller in Cassidy’s system & he’s now coaching in a better spot?

The RB for Arizona State played 2 years at Sacramento State and put up big yards in both places.  Seems some kids don't get chances until seen playing in college then the bigger schools go after them.  Seems to relate to real life jobs after someone performs at a company, another company offers them more money to leave and come work for them.
