Rest assured SMU will ‘win’. It’s the only way an ACC team will get in. Hopefully even so they’ll get the ‘ACC treatment’ that Florida State got last year, followed by a similar season as this year’s FSU next year.

If SMU make a serious playoff run, I already see 394945050234 threads being made.

What's the next SMU thread going to be about?

"Is the toilet paper at Ford Stadium even 2-ply?"

Well of course it is. If you're gonna do blow off the bathroom counters at half time, you want only the best quilted northern

It's funny how everyone rushed to shuffle conferences and make sure they got into a Power 5, yet here we are exactly a year into this system and the arguments are all about whether those power 5 schools played a "strong enough" power 5 schedule. Like maybe SMU would have gotten a harder schedule if everyone hadn't rushed to consolidate all of them and created a situation where they got to avoid the harder teams.

We tried to tell them it would be the Power 2.

The committee hasn’t though. They’re all that matters. They’re loading the playoffs with SEC and Big 10/ND.The Big XII and ACC have been lowered a notch whether they want to believe it or not.

Ah you're so right. How silly of us. I guess we should have stayed in the AAC playing Tulsa on ESPN+.  Then we'd never have to worry about dropping out of the top 10.

I’m not saying that at all. I’m saying the ACC and Big XII are still a long way from getting the respect the SEC and Big 10 get.

You'd have a much easier path if you were 11-1 playing Army this weekend, instead you have to get through Clemson. You can't have 16 or 18 teams in your conference, play 8 of them and then call yourself the champion, it's not a feasible way to determine who is the best. I think 12 is a good number for the playoffs but it's still a stupid system if power 5 teams don't "play a hard enough schedule".

We wouldn't really have an easier path because we wouldn't recruit at the same level without the AAC-ACC move,  but otherwise I agree with everything.   Conferences are way too big to make  sense and the playoff selection process with ridiculous.

Let's see how Clemson goes before you start talking Top 10 and buying CFP tickets.

Your schedule so far is a little lame to be in the CFP.

Were you not following the conversation? I hope Clemson hang 70 on them but this is such BS. They joined a power conference and if they win Saturday they will be the champions of that power conference. You can't say someone has a weak schedule when they win a power 4, otherwise wtf was all of the realignment about if winning a power conference doesn't get you into the playoffs? WHY DID WE KILL THE BEAUTIFUL PAC 12 CONFERENCE IF NOT FOR THIS!?!?!?

"Ah well, sorry you're undefeated Tennessee but Bama had a down year and you didn't have to play a 1-loss LSU team that didn't make the conference title after an Ole Miss upset. Sorry!"

Exactly the point.   What is a "power conference" without any power?   It's a fake name for fake power.   Until the CFP admits ALL conference champions (power or not) it will be a bogus playoff.

$mut lost to BYU, their toughest opponent, not even in the Big12 championship.  Louisville was #22, but now has 4 losses, thus they weren't really #22.

$mut never played the Top teams in the AAC.

This is exactly the point. The ACC isn't a power conference anymore. There's only 2 (SEC/Big 10).

Yeah, I get your point, but that's not how everyone agreed to set it up. The whole setup was "join one of these power 4s, win the title, and you get in." You're in a power conference, there is no such thing as a 'weak' schedule unless you're specifying out of conference. Do I agree SMU missed out on the top teams and had a 'weaker' schedule? Of course, but if they win Saturday you can't not include them for that reason, because that punishes a team who legitimately followed the agreed upon formula for qualifying. WTF is Cal and Stanford doing in the ACC if not to qualify for the playoff.

I'm actually on board with what you're saying about power conferences being diluted, but we knew this was gonna be the case when the playoff system was setup. SMU had to stab themselves in the foot just to get it in the door, but credit to them they did exactly that and deserve to be in the playoff if they win that diluted ACC. I'd say the same for Central Florida or BYU if they were in this situation.
