love this kid, sounds like a hard worker and does not want any hand outs. Hope he can bring some toughness to this defense and get some discipline.

I like what I see, but my concern is will he be able to bring any of his best players with him or will they all go with the head coach who is leaving for another job as well.  If you recall, Eric Morris was not able to get any of his players because the Texas State coach convinced them to come with him to Texas State and that gave the Bobcats a decided advantage.

In principle I do see this as a good hire because he is still hungry but he is very young.

I like this hire. Will it work out? No idea. But there’s connections, possible players transferring in with him, and a fresh young mind who has them ranked high in defense. If you’re not an SEC or Big ten school it seems hard to have a good defense at FBS schools in general.

Considering another 6-6 season probably gets Morris canned, this hire really surprises me. The defense HAS to get turned around next year. I figured we'd hire someone with more experience and skins on the wall. This guy might be a genius, but does he have the pull to put together a good staff, and recruiting experience to sign quality players?

This is the hire I would have expected when Morris was first brought on. Shocked its the route he's taking after his first hire completely blew up in his face.

Someone needs to send him a copy of the article written by Randy Galloway about the origins of the nickname "Mean Green".  It was about a bunch of nobodies who got together after a disastrous season and made the commitment to not ever be doormats again. In the process they inspired the coining of the nickname "mean green" and ended up being the #2 defense in the nation against the run.

It would be a pretty inspirational story for an overachiever like Coach Cassity to read.

Hire might tell you that the school has more risk appetite than we do. I highly doubt Cassity takes the job unless he had assurances that Eric's job is safe.. for now.

Wonder why he is not taking Cassity with him?

Maybe a 29 year old DC is too much of a risk for the Temple Athletic department and hired Keeler with the understanding that someone with more experience should be hired.

DC at Abilene Christian in 2022 and 2023.

Defensive rank in 2022: 51

Defensive rank in 2023: 117

When do we get a new Head Coach?

My guess is that the portal traffic is a lot more active in schools/programs the size of ACU. Potentially lots of shopping/cherry picking done by bigger programs in between 22 and 23.

Maybe. Or Keeler already knew Cassity had the UNT job.

So that justifies being ranked 117? Not buying it.

We wanted an experienced coach and instead got a 30 year old who's spent as much time as a grad assistant at Texas State and Texas Tech as he has a DC.

Morris was already a year removed from UIW, Kinne was the head coach at the time so it makes sense that the players that played under him would follow him and not the guy who left them a year earlier. IIRC he did bring Cam Ward and a few others with him to WSU.
