that Jan 5 game is setting up to be super important as it's looking like possibly our only other shot at a Quad 1 win.

plus for some of you, it could be a convenient stop on your roadtrip...looks like Memphis is about a third of the way to DC...might wanna get on the road after the game to catch the daytime reunion activities, but either way I'm sure the party will be going well into the night

What are Net rankings based on?

I question a lot of their ranking order.

Utah St. is not #14 good.

UConn is #39, and Dayton is #40??

Man, this is just the perfect encapsulation of this board.

Yes, we all know you think you're a sports genius and life guru.

But even Mensa members like yourself wouldn't put Utah St 25 spots in front of UConn and Dayton.

I know you think you're some all-knowing sports and life guru, but do you really think Utah St could stay with UConn or Dayton?  Seriously, 25 spots difference between them?

lol.

i honestly probably watch way less sports than most of the posters here. it's cute you took that personally instead of actually looking at what you said.

"What are Net rankings based on?" and "I question a lot of their ranking order." your words

so you admit you don't fully understand a thing, but yet you doubt it.

@CMJ gave you the literal definition. it's a very important metric and one that will be fluid throughout the year. as, let's say, UCONN plays Big East opponents with higher NET rankings, win or lose they'll start to move up in NET, while a Memphis win over shit UTSA may actually hurt them.

to your exact question...ya...I think USU would hang real tough with UCONN right now. probably beat the team I watched in Maui.

Computerized rankings will never be anywhere close to accurate this early in the season.  Come March they'll probably have a much better handle on how good teams really are - but even then they're never gonna be able to predict everything.

Agreed. But we can all also agree that this is a great jumping off point for UNT in NET. A quality indicator of the program’s overall progress since Grant first arrived. We’ve come a LONG way from the Benford era.

like how we finished 8-22 in Benford's last season and had a final ranking of 299?? at the time we were a few spots below a couple hospital teams, Detroit Mercy & Sacred Heart. now we're three back of UT

😂 I hate revisiting the records and specific games of that era cause it was all such a train wreck. Still should be discussed from time to time when some of our fanbase gets restless with wanting to take the next step as a program. Trying to cement ourselves as a perineal Top 50 program is tough but we’re on the right track.

I remember years back  @TheTastyGreek putting into perspective how tough achieving a Top 25 ranking in hoops was relative to FBS football back in the day. Too lazy to go dig that up but it really highlighted how difficult it is generally speaking and then layer in what you’re describing above - what UNT has had to overcome from a performance and program perception standpoint.

Great start for the team in the NET, but the NET is far more accurate in February then it is in early December.  It is the metric used by the committee to determine seeding and at large bids for the tournament.

Down side is that there is not a lot of opportunity left to move up, The game at Memphis is the only Q1 game left on the regular schedule, and maybe 3-4 Q2 games.

Oh, I understand their metrics.  That doesn't make it accurate in reality.

Just like your opinions seem sane to you, but to most posters you're just, well.....

Her point was, since you missed it,  it's hard to be taken seriously when in the same breath you say you don't understand net ratings but its wrong anyway. However, thanks for reminding me to take my meds, especially my anti depression which I need after reading your posts.

I said the Net rankings were not accurate, just like your posts and NT memories.

They're still probably the best we have though.  If you average the NET, RPI, Sagarin, KenPom, (and the AP/Coaches polls for the top 30 or so)etc., you'd probably get a somewhat reasonable idea how teams stack up.
