Jerry Moore replaced Hayden Fry for 2 seasons before moving on to Texas Tech in 1980 with a 12 & 12 record. North Texas has fired every head football coach since. This job is a mill stone, not a stepping stone.

My point is you will see more head coaches leave G5 teams for P5 coordinator gigs.  In fact, I could see this happening with Morris. It used to be that a G5 head coaching posting would be more valuable to a coach and his family.  I believe NIL and the portal has changed this.

Your point may be true, but you do know that UCF is not G5, right?  Malzahn hasn't upgraded conferences, although he has gone from a lower-level BXII team to a traditionally top-tier ACC team.

And with Chip Kelly already leaving the HC gig at UCLA to be OC in the same conference, the precedent has already been set for wacky movement.

Regardless, as mentioned in the O.P., Malzahn was probably not going to be the HC at UCF next year no matter how much he wanted to stay.

One of my sons goes to UCF. Fans are giddy he is leaving. The only trend in play here is a coach leaving before he got fired.

Saved UCF a lot of $$ too.
