Keep in mind that the Frisco Bowl is going to happen one week after the portal opens, which means the week leading up to it will be filled with announcements of our players leaving (along with the two weeks following it).  Getting an absolute kick to the crotch in that game that we might be playing with a bunch of backups on offense could really set things back, heading into the offseason.

Portal announcements have already begun for some players/schools....

Sources: Texas Tech WR Micah Hudson to enter transfer portal

Hudson is expected to be one of the most coveted receivers on the transfer market when he officially enters the portal on Dec. 9, the first day of the NCAA's winter transfer window.

Frisco Bowl vs. Western Michigan.  The writing is on the wall.

Well if we are in the Frisco Bowl we will get a chance to see the newly expanded SMU football stadium. Big Woop1

we finished 9 th in the conference,  should we really be in a bowl game?

We have gone to at least 4 bowl games with 5 & 7 records so why not.

My pitch to Micah: We don’t have a lot of money, but we do have one more year of Chandler Morris. Come catch 75 balls then go make a bajillion dollars in the portal.

This spares many of our fans from having to witness in person (and also saves NT the embarrassment of a poor turnout in our own backyard)

Why is this an embarrassment?  You find me another program with a metro location, no real rivals at 6-6 getting a high turnout for an exhibition game then I will be embarrassed.  Bowl games have never been more meaningless and I suspect some will go away after their current media contracts go away.   No G5 team that finishes 5th in their conference deserves a bowl game.

Western Michigan is off the board. They are set to play South Alabama in Montgomery on December 14th.

Were you at the Cotton Bowl for the 2013 HoD Bowl?   Attendance of 38k, and I bet UNLV brought ~1500.
That's what a decent turnout should look like for a local bowl for us.
The 2022 Frisco Bowl's attendance was officially 12k (very generous), and the crowd was so unimpressive & unenthusiastic, you couldn't really even tell who many of them were rooting for.  But, there was enough blue to know more than 1500 were rooting for Boise.     Very embarrassing for a University that is only 30 minutes away.

I was looking at the UTEP fan forum and they are having players leave for the portal.  In the lesser bowls I guess you have to hope your opponent has more players sitting out than you do.

The  D played well against ECU in the first half.  The second half they were just beating up and pushing our DL.  The DL was out of gas,  You really have to have depth if run our offense.

Honestly that's a product of too many bowls. Nobody cares to go to the pity bowls. We should cut the number in half to give more value to the fans. I understand players get a few more weeks on the practice field, but from a fan perspective I have zero interest in watching two half baked programs play poor football for 3 hours

Not me. I’ll watch any football to satisfy through the long offseason and that is why networks still buy this programming. I’m not alone.

Two words: bowl pool. Lots of folks put up a few bucks, make 40 picks, then rank them for confidence 1-40. I watch at least a part of all 40 games. BTW, not sure how the playoff games will impact the pool structure this year.

ESPN sponsors most of these bowls for TV content—not the bigger, traditional bowls, but the spare ones that are mostly in mid to late December.

NYT has us playing Texas State in the Frisco Bowl. Is the construction at Toyota completed or is the Frisco Bowl played at SMU's stadium?

Is the NYT even a legitimate news source?

When will our bowl be announced? I thought it would come yesterday.

Probably after this week's conference championships but maybe before.
