Unfortunately, I feel like pep bands all over the country are largely getting sidelined for the DJ music and "Let's make some noise!" kinda stuff.  It's definitely not unique to NT.

I enjoyed the overall presentation too. One gripe kind of related to your second paragraph though. A spontaneous 'North Texas' chant broke out in the second half; I think it was right after Oregon St called time out when we went up 53-46. It would have been a really cool moment if the chant were allowed to get bigger. Instead it got drowned out by in arena music and the next paid promotion. So, just being more cognizant of those moments, and they don't happen too frequently, would improve the game experience. I should mention that they have stopped before to let North Texas chants build up; the game against Memphis last season comes to mind.

I was going to mention this. I was one of the "old men" that stood in the student section to help fill in with school being out. We tried starting the chant because it was perfect timing. End of a 13-0 run following a steal and Jossell 3. We tried and tried but yeah the DJ and music eventually drowned us out.

Then they had the nerve to start the chant with 35 seconds left after Jossell moved two free throws and OSU hit a game-tying 3. Crowd was completely depleted including myself and I had no interest in restarting the chant.

It’s the Mark Cuban/Mavs’ effect on basketball. Not a fan of it. I don’t mind some music, but not constantly. I enjoy the timeouts to talk about the game to the people next to me.

That would simply be a doors effect. People enjoy music and the hype it brings to athletes. I can assure you a player on the floor much rather hear music that will feed their adrenaline than a school chant. That’s an every sport thing.

You didn’t play much growing up, did you?

A good pep band will get me more excited about a game than whatever top 40 song they wanna throw over the PA.  Like I said earlier this is something that a lot of schools are infected with with how.  I've been to a few UCLA basketball games here and there over the years and there was a much better atmosphere when their pep band was playing during the various timeouts than nowadays when some random rock song and/or promotion takes up the entire media timeout.

Where is old Tylor Perry these days?  Still at Kansas, or was it Kansas State that bankrolled him?

His last year was at Kansas St. He got drafted in the G league.

The athletes don't want to hear the fans? lol

the @Andrew takes just keep getting worse and worse. it's pretty amazing, honestly. if it comes out that this is just some big Andy Kaufman-esque bit I'll be the first to tip my cap

I guess if you donated more to NIL then UNT could've kept him. way to drop the ball, amico.

When I was younger I really wanted the pep bands of the 90s. Coming out to fit like an eagle being played by the pep band was just cool. Of course hearing the space jam soundtrack at times over the PA made it all the better. The pep band is still important, but I do believe the DJ is taking over because that is what is preferred by the players and the students. Te students are the key demographic for butts in seats and the players are the ones who the game revolves around.
