There's a non zero chance that the Big XII could miss the playoffs entirely.  I doubt it happens, but if enough chaos takes place between all of the teams that have a chance (something like 8 teams are mathematically alive), the right combination could have the winner fall behind Tulane in the final poll.  It's not likely, but it's a possibility.

The real saving grace with the BIG12 is Kansas State playing Iowa State this Saturday. If Kansas State wins and BYU, Colorado, and Arizona State all lose, you're looking at the Big 12 champion having 3 losses at worst and I'm not sure that's enough to keep them out and Tulane in.

What kind of chaos do you think would have to happen to keep the Big12 out?

if the Big 12 championship game is between two 9-3 teams and Tulane runs the table impressively that's gotta at least sew some doubt...especially considering Tulane is currently ranked above all save ASU.

If Utah, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Baylor, Houston, TCU, Kansas State and Texas Tech all win this weekend a 2-seed Texas Tech plays 1-seed Baylor in the Big XII Title game.  I don't see either jumping Tulane.

You can play with various scenarios here.  It's actually unbelievable how many there are.

Edit: Great, now it doesn't seem to be working.  Trust me, it was a few minutes ago!

Just 23 months ago we went toe-to-toe against BSU in the Frisco Bowl.  Now they are actually looking at a first round bye in the CFP and we're sitting at #97.  Crazy to think about what can happen in such a short amount of time.

Don't know what the tie breakers look like but Tulane losing to Kansas State is painful right now.

Yes, that's how close we are.....er, were.

I love chaos in the CFP.  Until they do like all other Playoffs and let all Conference champs into the Playoff, it will be bogus!

Can you imagine the panic if Boise State and Tulane got in but the Big 12 was left out?

I would think losses to KSt and OU would be enough to keep Tulane out, but who knows.  Honestly, those two losses make a pretty good case against Tulane getting in since they have no signature win except Navy…if that’s even a great win.

Crazier things have happened, but it'd still be pretty high on the "crazy things" list!

I’m not sure I like this playoff format in its first year run. The regular season seems mute and bowl games are losing their bite. That might be more portal though.

If only 3 SEC teams get in that will be their catalyst to form the upper tier league. It looks like 4 Big 3 SEC 2 ACC 1 G5 1 big 12 and Notre same. That’s not how the powers planned this to work out. It is supposed to be 4 and 4 at the top and 1 from everyone else. No way Tulane gets in though I think they’re better than Boise.

The big dogs left out of the party are already tuning out, see LSU and Bama fan.

With that said I still want to go bowling.

I agree the CFP including fewer than 4 SEC and 4 Big10 will cause pause on the future of this process.   Elite Conferences with Elite schedules was all about gaining the prize at the end of the season, a CFP ticket.

Instead they knocked themselves out with parity, lol!

The Big Bowls that feature these Brand CFP-left-behinds like LSU, Bama, OU, Michigan, et al, will feel the effects of the non-CFP team's players opting out of playing in those Bowls like Florida St. last year.

The players with NFL potential will opt out to get ready for the draft, and others jilted by their team not making the CFP will Portal out and off those teams.  Bowls have been weakened by the Portal and CFP.

The Big 12 is power-in-name-only. Don’t get fooled by being above them. Boise would run that league hard.

None of the also rans (anyone besides the B1G, SEC, and ND) are gonna do much in this playoff system. The networks aren’t spending this kind of money to see Boise State play SMU in a title game.

Could you imagine, lol.    Similar to Georgia vs TCu.

Yet they are placing us there via their ranking committee.

Regardless,  Tulane boxing the truck stops out of the playoffs entirely would be a nice shiny bow on an already unbelievable year.
