N.C owes him 3MILLION minus what we pay him He brings top offense and top DEFENSE coaches and sets us up for the future

in 2019 he had a decent defense, ranked 44th in points allowed...

Since then the defense has been ranked

2020 - 65th (29.4 PPG)

2021 - 105th (32.1 PPG)

2022 - 102nd (30.8 PPG)

2023 - 75th (27.3 PPG)

2024 - 83rd*Currently* (27.5 PPG)

All of the above would have probably had us averaging 7-8 wins over the past few years, but it's not exactly top defense...

To his credit, his offense has been pretty consistently top 40 every year.

EM will cook in year 3. He said that’s when it took off at Wazzu.

Win on Saturday. I don’t care if it’s by only 1 point. Let’s bowl and invite Cougar Q to our bowl game.

Plus coaches that get fired need some time off between gigs. Their heads need reset between grinds.

EM, McGuire and Aranda are 3 of a kind to me. They all drive their fanbases to the brink then figure it out.

2025 will be special. But first I want to bowl.

His biggest mistake was hiring and retaining the DC. He’s fixing that.  The other glaring issue is our lack of a deep threat.  Opposing teams drop 8 and attack our screens.  I didn’t realize just how much we’d miss Maclin. I think we address both issues in the TP.

We need to show up on Saturday, though.  A 45-42 game would not be a good look vs Temple. Needs to be 45-10, or better.

Don’t need a deep threat when all you run are screens

No. Finish the season strong, hire a DC, retain who we need to retain, then hit the TP.

The "finish the season strong" ship has sailed.  You aren't going to impress Transfer Portal Players with a win over a bad 3-8 Temple team and win in a bowl over a team they don't want to go to.   And I am not sure that at 6-6 we get a bowl invitation.  Best case scenario we see only incremental improvement next year with a capped ceiling at 7-5.

Who is paying all the $$ for these firings and hirings?   Not our AD right now.

I am! I was going through some stuff and found a bunch of unused gift cards and I think there’s enough to cover it!

A new DC isn't going to fix atrocious calls to go for it on 4th down from our own half, onside kicks in the 1st half, not kicking FGs, or horrible play calls.

But with a better defense, he may not feel like he needs to be that risky. He knew they needed to score often to stand a chance at winning these games.

And the special teams? And the game management? Do those things not matter?

I think he was so aggressive because of the bad defense.  When he finally kicked FG’s this last game we missed them both!  ST has not been great,  it I’m not sure why. We have the same coach…

ST has not been great, but I don’t get it.  Freshman kicker, I get that part.  There’s more to it, though.  Svdoba is supposed to be great, but they’ve been lacking as of late.  He was speculated for the Rice job…wonder if that’s a factor?

Game management has been lacking, too. But @aztecskinmentioned it in his podcast…the problem is that EM becomes the OC and forgets he’s the HC. I’m paraphrasing.  I still think it all goes back to the defense.  He doesn’t trust, so he presses.

Kicking has been bad, punting is average at best, and we allowed the onside kick against UTSA. Those are my main complaints. There's only about 25 teams (quick count) that have allowed a kickoff return for a TD and we're one of them. Special teams certainly wasn't a weapon this year which to me means it has the potential to be a problem.

Regarding Morris being aggressive because the defense is bad, I just disagree. I'll refer to the Navy game last year going for it on 4th and goal on the first drive. It was game 5 of his tenure. He did it again on the first drive against Memphis last year. Two games we lost by 3 where he passed up the field goal attempt on the first drive of the game all within his first 7 games. If he didn't trust the defense that much 7 games in to his coaching career here but yet kept Caponi for year 2, that's a fireable offense on his own.

Now to EM acting as an OC and not HC, this is his 6th year as a division 1 head coach. Are we really making this excuse for him? Honestly all of this makes me wish he'd get an OC job somewhere and leave.

I’ve seen that before. Hard pass.

I don’t think Mack Brown’s the answer here either, but let’s not pretend McCarney is anywhere near Brown in terms of head coaching success. Brown would be a huge upgrade.
