If he can finish the season with 2 wins: I think it is a successful year and gives momentum for the future.

Beat Temple then lose a bowl game: that is pretty Old Denton. And just like, how things go around here.

Lose to Temple: I’m very discouraged, but still gonna cheer for him because we don’t have the money to fire him. And life is too short to hate the things you love when you can’t do anything to change it.

I am. Hitting reset on the defense vs. reset on the entire team seems like the most efficient way to handle this. If he could go get a proven DC, and maybe even a former head coach somewhere as an analyst, I actually like his chances of working out.

I can’t believe how many apologists have come out to either pledge loyalty to Morris or just admit they are resigned to permanent loserville. We definitely can afford to buy out a coach. And we should.

I can’t believe how many people think going through another complete roster overhaul with a new coaching staff that has no time to recruit is a good way to set us up for success in 2025.

Not me

This guy can only beat teams that are at the bottom of the barrel

And can we stop with the “well he needs another year”, “oh let him get his DC in” ….”oh it only took him about two seasons to fire someone”

This isn’t Incarnate Word. This isn’t D-2. Wins matter and we’re not winning. Each year we keep falling behind, we keep wasting NIL money and investors in this product. If this was a business, would there be people lining up to invest in this product and whomever is running it? Hard decisions have to be made. Unfortunately, we don’t have the leadership with the capacity to make hard decisions.

He didn’t come in off the street.  He was a part of the program and probably didn’t have to change a thing.   What a mid-season change CAN do is change an attitude.  Change a belief.  Those 2 elements alone can contribute to success.   Then when it starts turning positive on the field, it becomes a snowball.

A mid-season change to an interim is not the same as an off-season change.  Those often result in a program overhaul.

While it has been painful to watch so far, I hope he wakes up one day soon and has all the karma on his side, he figures out the issues, he puts corrections in place and turns this thing around.

Defense used to be our calling card and our offense was compared to a Buick. Now, we got the offense most want, Leach-like and high powered, but our defense is terrible.

I would love to have our vaunted defense back and sacrifice a little offense. It is demoralizing to watch our defense play out of position, miss tackles, take bad angles, etc. week after week. This all falls on coaching. We recruit better now than we did then yet we do nothing with these young men. Example, Eod Brown was a handful for Army to handle when moved off the nose and into a four man front. What do we do?  Go right back to the 3-3-5 failure because that is the defense that gave Morris the most fits. Don’t tell me we aren’t capable of recruiting on the same level as Tulane, Memphis, etc. We have everything they have to offer and more. Time to get away from the no defense/air raid offense.

I have been rooting against him all along because I didn’t think he would be an improvement over Littrell. If we had hired a smash mouth defense-first coach I may have felt differently. We just hired a less experienced version of what we already had.

Not a bad take.  But, I don't want to conflate two separate issues.  I am always going to root for the Mean Green in every game they play, and Morris is currently the head coach, so I guess I am rooting for him to win.  Now, am I rooting for him to return next season? Probably not.  Every sign seems to be pointing to the sad reality that we are headed in the wrong direction.  If we somehow end up in a bowl game and beat a respectable opponent and finish 7-6, then I would reconsider (highly doubt that happens).  Anything less and I will be very upset by a year three of Morris.

As for the part about not having the money for a buyout, do we know this for a fact, or is this just an assumption? Since his salary is only about half of what Littrell's was, then it would stand to reason that the buyout is not unmanageable.
