Only being down 1 score just north of 2 minutes left in the game with the 2-minute time-out and all 3 of your time-outs remaining, do you risk it all on a 4th and 8 from your own 32 to keep a potential game-winning drive alive or do you punt to flip the field, get a stop and the ball back with a chance to win on the last possession?  Discuss….

EM was the first hire in my fandom (1999) that on paper made a ton of sense.  Every single succession of hires since then was very reactionary: we went from running (DD) to passing (Dodge).  Then we went from young and passing (Dodge) to  old age, old school (McCarney).  Then we went back to youth and tried the Leach tree

In many ways, the EM hire being another young Leach guy, was the department's first attempt to seek consistency.  Remember, SL was wnning some games, just failing in the important ones.  I liked it, because it seemed like all this was was taking something that was almost there, and tweaking it as needed.

Great point, however I think we all failed to, and most importantly Mosley failed to understand this guy had absolutely no concept of defense.

I wonder how much more is trying to be the offensive coordinator and head coach has hurt him. This game seems to be too much at this level for him.

In hindsight, EM made no sense for this very reason. SL had us close, just couldn't take the next step. We were in a position that warranted an experienced FBS head coach to make the leap. Instead we got a first time FBS coach with the same learning curve as SL. Spending three years as a head coach at any level isn’t enough. He never even saw his first freshman graduate. I feel like we're in neutral at this point. The sooner we cut ties the better.

It was one of the few going for it on 4th downs I agreed with this year.  Didn’t particularly like the 3rd down or 4th down play calls though.

Agreed. You punt it there and a single first down is game over. The fact you're at 4th and 8 though is ridiculous.

I’m torn on this one.  You don’t pick up the first, you still have a chance, but the game is likely over.  Punt it and you extend the game.  ECU won’t want to risk a turn-over around their 20, so they go conservative.   Maybe we force a fumble.  We need our defense to get a stop which may be as risky as 4th and 8.  I dunno…coin toss.   We ultimately got the ball back, but down now down two scores.

last play of the game shows everything about EM, 4th and 11 gets a screen pass and runs OB. All coaching and discipline.

Where would he be if he couldn’t call a screen pass to his WRs ?

For most teams, punting it away would have been reasonable, but I would have lost my mind if we’d punted based on our tendencies.  I feel like we’ve gone for it with very similar field position in the first half of games this year.

So according to his postgame, he says the interim DC did a phenomenal job coaching today.  I don't consider giving up 40 points phenomenal.

When asked what has gone wrong in the last 5 losses, he says "too much to discuss."

He does not not have it.

What f'n game was EM watching? First half was solid, but the defense did nothing in the 2nd half nor make any adjustments. That comment alone tells you EM has no clue what he doing

Yeah, they can't find a medium. It's either make your ears bleed, or non-existent.

And it seems like they try to adjust it while it’s on…. At least that is what it sounds like.

Seems weird that he would say that.  Are you sure you heard him accurately?
