111 years ago today, the North Texas State Normal football team took the field for the first time when they traveled to Fort Worth and played TCU. It was a rainy day that obviously helped TCU to a 13-0 final score. North Texas was coached by J.W. Pender and TCU was coached by Fred Cahoon. Here's to 5 fabulous seasons of UNT football!

Oddly enough, the news article seems to indicate that TCU came to Denton, but all the records I find online show that Denton went to TCU.  I doubt there are any eyewitnesses left to clarify the discrepancy.

Did Vito write that dynamic sports piece?

Ha! The evidence suggests otherwise. If Vito had written it:
"In a steady rain today a host of North Texas Normal football players met a host of Texas Christian University players. When night fell the players from Texas Christian University were victorious in the first of a host of future beatdowns of the team from Denton."

Why wasn’t this promoted at the 100 year mark ?  I recall when UT observed their 100 year anniversary they had a football with “100” on the helmet along with the longhorn logo.  Another missed opportunity.

”Happy 111 years of football” just doesn’t roll off the tongue as well.

Anyone brining a cake tomorrow to celebrate?

Candy Haven does a good "remnant" cake for about $12. One should feed everyone (at our tailgate).

Does that keep the cake moist and work similar to when doing the same to a turkey?

The remnant cake is great. They take pieces of cake that were trimmed off other cakes, i.e. cakes baked in a square pan but cut into a custom shape. They then put on their fantastic icing so you don't see its been formed from pieces. It's also smaller so when I am in the mood for birthday cake, I don't have to wait for my birthday and its not so much that I prematurely die of diabetes.

Candy Haven is cake heaven.
