Thinking about the current (non-Mean Green) American torchbearers right now.  Random thoughts:

MEMPHIS is clearly the media darling.  I hate rooting for them, but this conference desperately needs more respect and the only way to get that is to win these OOC games.

WICHITA STATE is rockin'! Not many brand name wins, but the BB enthusiast will see some solid wins on their resume.  Minnesota is on deck soon, for those that like to look at common opponents.  Also ETSU, which is clobbering Charlotte right now.  They should wallop Alcorn State.

ECU and RICE.  Not sure what to think about these stellar records.  Me personally, I love the game but I don't love it to the point of being familiar with all 300+ programs.  I know very little about their opponents.

PS: I don't know if the American has had this many 1 or 0-loss teams (5) this far into November.  Seems like it would be a good thing, right?

Tulane has an important game against Belmont tonight. Looking at their history, Belmont has only failed to reach 20 wins twice since the 2003-2004 season. As for this season, it would be Tulane's best win so far.

Memphis is getting destroyed early on.

Surprised by their efforts on the defensive boards. Really liked Johni Broome when he was at Morehead State a couple years back. Looks like he's having a big impact.

Edit to add didn't realize Broome already had a double-double. He's a beast...

Johni Broome is that dude. looks like the best player I've seen play this year. good run for Memphis, but just hit a buzzsaw tonight

I just pulled up a handful of '25 mock drafts and Broome isn't mentioned at all. I know the NBA draft over-values 19-20 year olds and athleticism measurables, but someone is gonna walk away with a solid contributor. Broome is a baller

Charlotte takes the L, getting outscored 44-19 in the 2H.  brutal

It's all about the halftime adjustments.  Some coaches know what to say.

Auburn with 2 wins over then-T5 teams, plus #12 UNC.  Memphis isn’t ranked but they just beat #2 UCONN.  that’s a damn good resume.

Unranked WVU beat #3 Gonzaga today, and unranked Louisville crushes #14 Indiana by 28.

These neutral site tourney games, some in exotic beach locations, must have a lot of distractions for young players, lol.

I haven’t bothered looking into it, but I did wonder about a possible personnel change.  Maybe Charlotte lost a player right before half or something.  Or maybe ETSU gained someone at half after being ineligible in the first.

He could be a really good example of the rich getting richer if his draft stock stays low due to his age. Imagine a team like Dallas, Boston, Denver, or OKC getting him late in the first round and bringing his energy off the bench for the next few years. I'd hate for my team to go against him.

I would love him with the Mavs as a sort of heir apparent to Maxi as a stretch 4/small 5

Would be a great role. Get in there for 15-20 minutes a night, wear people the F out when Gafford and/or Lively are sitting, and just wreck havoc. He almost seems interchangeable with Lively based on skill set and energy. Having one or the other on the court at all times would be insane.
