Yeah I agree it's a long shot. I've thought of this scenario as well and just don't find it likely to get 3 AAC bids barring other conferences collapsing. For example if the Big 10 and Big 12 end up with a clear separation of top and bottom which leaves the bottom half of teams well bellow .500 in conference play, maybe? Those two conferences weren't strong enough in OOC to make-up for horrid conference records like the SEC was.

The more I think of it, the more it's apparent losing to Memphis was probably the nail in the coffin that is our at-large hopes. Had we beaten Memphis and then lost to Memphis in the conference tourney CCG, we'd at least have that one Quad 1 win but as it is, I just don't see how we can beat Memphis and not win the tourney but still get a bid.

Here's the thing--you couldn't ask for the situation to be more perfect for UNT to win the automatic bid. The conference tournament is down the road from you for the entire tournament. Nobody else is within 4 hours of Fort Worth. We are less than an hour away, with over 300k alumni and students here. If we can't get the homecourt advantage there, then there's not much you can really do.

Which probably means we will lose to UAB or FAU in the semis...never underestimate a UNT team to flop in a big situation in front of the biggest crowds of UNT fans.

All we can do is hope the team stays motivated and takes care of business. Reading body language for guys like Atin Wright and Brennan Lorient, they look like they're on a mission.

I believe most of the biggest crowds we've had at the Super Pit over its history have ended in Ws.  I mean not all of them to be sure, but I feel like generally when we get a 6K+ crowd, we win.

Most of them have no idea what we have done in the past. They are new to North Texas don't place negative ideas in their heads. GMG!

That’s also the problem with the new students…they don’t know the history and how good men’s basketball has been for several years now.

Preach, Shark. I’m just enjoying the ride. We are a good team gutting out wins against good teams in hostile environments. We are going to have a fun raucous environment on Saturday. Get crazy, get the face tattoo, cheer with the Maniacs, sing with the band.

At some point on Saturday there will be a Mean Green run to get wild with. There will be defensive play that rips you out of your seat. There will be a ground shaking 3. There will be noise we haven’t heard before in that arena.

Oh yeah and you will be hoarse or lose your voice. So tamp down Sunday plans.

The three true contenders rising to the top. Take care of business against UTSA and we'll get to go to sleep half a game in first place again since Memphis doesn't play until Sunday.

I think we will.  Don’t get me wrong, UTSA could get hit against us but with the way Sissoku is playing I don’t think they can stop us.

We better. The loss last year is probably the worst I've taken in at The Pit.

0 Q1 wins won't help you here, no matter how highly ranked you are. These metrics rise with blowouts and high-efficiency offensive/defensive outputs. We could be 35 by the conference championship, lose and still be left out. Because at the end of the day, no matter the quantity of wins and blowouts, if you, as a mid-major in a not-as-great conference this year, don't have any QUALITY wins, they will snub you. Just like 2021-22 team and even the 22-23 team, just like MTSU in 2017-18, Belmont a few years ago etc...

If only there was a system in place that automatically ranked teams you could just follow. If that were the case, you would expect the committee to use it to pick the top teams.....

I think you posted in the wrong section. Football is a different section of the site.

Yes. I feel football fans try to carry that over to basketball and it isn't the same.

I don't know about y'all, but I know I watched La Tech beat us in the CUSA semifinals in 2022 and watched us lose to UAB in the CUSA semifinals, both in Frisco...that's why I bring up the idea that losing in front of more of our fans than anyone else in FW could happen again.

Well, you're conflating two things.  You're right, we had homecourt advantage in those conference tournament games, but I don't believe either case we had a massive turnout (because we basically never get, even at home).  But you said we always flopped in front of big crowds.  I automatically went to games at the Super Pit with significant homecourt advantages where we do in fact tend to win.  And yes, we've lost games in from of 5K+ before, but we win way more than we lose.

That's what we need to take to Fort Worth.  We just never take multiple thousands crowds to the conference tourneys, even when they're close.
