The current Leadership at UNT would have never considered this guy when he was cheap enough to hire here and clear he could coach (near end of tenure at Elon or his start at James Madison).  I will tell you why.

1. Not no ties to Texas or Big 12 after 1990.

2. Not a well known “Air Raid/Spread Guru”

All this makes me wonder does our athletic department do after action report on football coaches that end being very successful at programs that aren’t historically successful.  I think it would be extremely helpful doing that for coaches we passed on or never got on our radar but maybe should have during a HC transition.

If I were hired as AD, other than a budget review, reviewing our hiring processes for Football head coaches and the “ones who got away” would be my first order of business.  If Eric Morris completes his time here without winning a bowl game or conference championship and extensive review of everything we do that setups our football program to win should be reviewed.

There's a lot of guys who can coach until they get to the FBS level. Recently fired ECU head coach Mike Houston was plucked from James Madison and he finished 27-38 at ECU. I do like James Madison's philosphy, though. They hire experienced college head coaches. Houston was a college HC for 5 seasons, Cignetti for 8, and the current guy Chesney for 13 prior to their stops at JMU.

Speaking of…Magic Mike Norvell just fired his OC, DC and WR coach. Would we be interested in any of them?

For what positions?  Do we have openings?

How much does the Army DC make? I'd love to have him here.

Nate Woody is the defensive coordinator for the Army West Point football team. In 2023, Woody's total pay was $480,000.

I'm not ready to buy this idea that our AD is attached to the Mike Leach tree.

I think the Morris hire had more to do with being consistent, and it was coincidence that his predecessor was also Leach.

Maybe you're right, though.  I'm not in those meetings.  I just think one Leach hire, following by one hire for the sake of consistency, doesn't equate to Leach-attachment lol.

Now, if the next guy is also Leach.  Then I'll buy.

He’s the coach of a 10-0 Big10 team. Doesn’t look like people “missed” on him.

I predict this will be his only season at Indiana.  A bigger program will $$ whip him (and his players) into a new job.

Speaking of Mike Norvell at FSU, they extended his contract last year (before the 63-3 loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl).  It goes thru 2031 at about $10M per season.  But like A$M, they also have $$, so I wouldn't be surprised if they finish 1-11 they cut him loose to calm donors.
