From my view of the second INT in the North end zone, it appeared there were two receivers running towards the left sideline. Morris threw to the trailing receiver. The receiver closer to the sideline was (wide?) open.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been much talk on here about this play.

Not sure how many of you watched the game on TV, but I did.   Watching the replay, I have no idea how the review refs could not see the ball break the plane before his knee went down.  It looked pretty clear to me.

A 10-7 lead there would have made a huge difference in the game.
I know we all felt extremely confident in our offense scoring there (2nd & goal from the 1/4-yd line), but it didn’t happen, for whatever reasons.

Massive miss there.

Also the INT that was overturned by replay… another miss, even though we wound up forcing the punt.

All that said, the game was decided on the 2 INTs Morris threw in the end zone.  He simply can’t throw those.

That was the start of three terrible calls from the officials.  Don’t forget the PI that wasn’t to extend that next drive.  Then the fumble that got stolen.  Pretty clear who the conference wanted to win that game.  Still, the game was there for us to take and the failures in the red zone are 100% within our control.

Despite all that we still had a chance to win. Which means, our offensive failed to get us points on the board. I don’t understand the love of throwing these quick routes to WRs to let the run after contact. We can’t block out there, and only one is capable of that…DT Sheffield. Yet, these quick hitters and WRs screens seem to be a staple of EM’s air raid offense. Are you really airing it out when the passes are to the LOS?

Not to mention army had some form of holding on almost every offensive play

It was a touchdown. I'm also flabbergasted at how it wasn't overturned. That said, we failed to execute where we had control. Morris can't throw into coverage like on the first pic and can't throw that 2nd interception with Sides wide freaking open in the flat. There were other near pics during the game. Not sure what Morris was doing but his decision making was off all game.

It was hard to tell live from my position in the stands if McGill got the touchdown. The replay shown in the stadium wasn't conclusive. Hank asked Morris about it on the postgame radio show. Morris said 'that even on the tape on the sideline' it looked like McGill scored. From watching an ESPN highlight clip after the game it looked like he scored to me.

I think you're referring to the fumble that was overturned by replay. It was so close. The DPI call on Nelson earlier in that drive made me absolutely nuts.

Chandler's INTs were crushing. There was a mass exodus of people with green shirts on after the first pick. A bubble bursting type of moment.

I’ve thought a lot about how different the game would have been had that not happened.  We’re all pissed that we couldn’t score there, but we really did.

Add to that the PI call and the fumble that was called an incomplete pass and it’s actually kind of shocking that we still could have won the game.

The TD not being given to us is even more frustrating if you saw the TD that Bama was given.  Instant replay really sucks sometimes.  What’s the point if you can’t get it right?

So was the radio play-by-play.  Wish there was a video replay for me to see this.

I also wish there was better checks-and-balances.  In the NFL, can't a team submit a replay of a call to the NFL office for review, even if it doesn't mean a change in the final score? At least there would be some transparency and accountability.

Based on the radio play by play, you would think that giving McGill the TD was a no-brainer, and the game might have ended up very differently.  An option offense playing from behind is very different from one playing to keep a lead.. (granted, it was still early in our game)

The McGill non-TD was 50/50. With my green glasses on, the ball broke the goal line more or less as his knee hit. The problem was that they didn’t call it a TD and therefore harder to call the TD on replay when that close.
The real problem is our inability to get TDs when in the redzone, particularly short yardage. Can’t run for one yard and it’s pathetic. Should never need to pass from the one yard line and if we do it should be some kind of play action misdirection to a block and release TE. The play calling in general was terrible this game. The decision making (on sides kick) was even worse.

On a related note, the non-fumble and the PI call were ridiculous. I can sort-of, kind-of see the PI call because it was a bang bang play and refs are human, but the fumble was a fumble and they got it wrong live and on replay. The AD needs to file a protest to the league. That ref should be suspended.

The play was reviewed and they determined there was insufficient evidence to overturn the call. Had they ruled a TD in live play, I believe it would have also stood.

It's so weird, because the ball simply has to break the plane, not cross the line entirely.   I don't know how the reply official could have seen the same footage we saw and not come to the conclusion that the ball broke the plane.

Agreed. You could clearly see the ball in hand cross before the knee hit the ground in my opinion. The only issue I can see is "the camera isn't exactly on the line." Game changing call but with 3 more downs from the 1, should it have mattered this much if the offense is truly elite? I don't know what's more frustrating: the call or that the offense was exposed?

And to add, not only does the ball just need to break the plane, it can break it and then go back out. Live play is essentially ended once the plane is broken. Seeing where his body was and the video review shown on TV, I don't know how you don't rule that a touchdown.
