The 2-0 ladies deserve a game thread.

After taking care of business against two D1 opponents this week, they travel to Eugene to play an Oregon Ducks team in what should be a winnable game. The Lady Ducks are 2-0 after wins over California Baptist and Nevada, but are coming off a season in which they finished last in the Pac-12 at 11-21, 2-16 and lost in the conference tournament to Colorado, 79-30.

After SFA transfer Kyla Deck led the way against Alcorn State with 27 points, the ladies used a much more balanced effort yesterday to beat Texas Southern. Four were in double figures: Moore with 20, Wooten with 16, Hardaway with 15, and Lampkin with 11.

The ladies play at a fast pace but still are too sloppy with the ball from what I picked up yesterday. This will be a great opportunity for a win against a power conference opponent.

This last game started with a whole lot of not being on the same page with each other.  Too many passes that became turnovers when somebody zigged instead of zagged.  The game changed when Aniyah Johnson went in and we started pressing.  She created turnovers that led to easy baskets.  Aniyah doesn't play a lot, but when she does there is usually an impact.  She has a role and she does it well.  It takes a mature player to play 4.5 minutes a game and be ready when called on.

It was also interesting that Coach Burton put 5'10" Talley on their tallest girl and not 6'2" Lampkin.  But, he was right.  She fouled out without scoring a single point.

It would be nice to get a win over a "name" opponent.

Team is good on defense especially with creating turnovers.  Offense has good shooters but we force post ups with Lampkin .  Dribble penetration from guards would help to then open up Lampkin through feeds .

Welp, Oregon beat #17 Baylor yesterday at home by 2 points, and they're now ranked #25 in the AP Poll. So I guess a win tomorrow would be a higher quality win than I thought coming into the season.

That's the problem with playing a soft schedule the first two games...getting away with sloppy performance and overconfidence.  Not ready for Prime time. 

I hope the Men's team does not fall due to the same issues tomorrow night.

Correct.   It's just hard to simulate going against Top 25 in practice.  They will be a better team for seeing the difference in person.

So, what would have happened if we played Oregon State the first game of the year? Same result. They are just on another level than we are talent wise.

Just a bad day that snowballed on them. They need those early games to gel when you are working in new players, etc. It is what it is. Learn from it, grow from it and move on.
