This is the crap we always have to put up with from these media guys. They think we are some spare and just a buy game. We have been a damn good program, better than Minnesota, for at least the last 5 years. You’d think a guy like Rothstein would know that.

He posts that exact tweet anytime a team loses a buy game. I wouldn’t take it as disrespect.

It’s an ongoing bit he has used for several seasons. Nothing specific to us.

This is a badge of honor not a swipe from Rothstein.

Great to see us go on the road and beat a Big 10 team in a rock fight! We’re relentless and I love it.

Reminds me of Temple under John Chaney.  He had some teams that couldn't throw it in the ocean, but they were always super tough to beat because of their match-up zone.

The difference is we seem to have both sides of the ball. I am really excited we actually have an offense to go with that lock down D!!

Is the AAC not a major conference?

"It was the first home nonconference loss for the Gophers against an opponent from outside of the major conferences since they lost to Milwaukee on Dec. 23, 2015."

We're considered a mid-major I believe. P5 are Big 10, SEC, ACC, Big 12, and Big East.

Most uneducated post I read was someone saying we could end up being a quad 3 blemish on the gophers tourney resume. 🤦‍♂️

gotta keep winning games like this. Only way to get past the stigma.

Awesome win! The only bad part was the commentary from the TV announcers. They confused Newell and Lorient for an extended period of time, stated that Atin Wright originally played at Washington State, and clearly barely knew anything about our program. The play by play announcer gave major 'and boom goes the dynamite' vibes. Some thoughts on the game:

- The defense was stellar as we've all come to expect. Delo and Massie were great playing multiple matchups.

- Minnesota came out and blitzed our PnRs. We really struggled with the pressure. Eventually we started slipping screens and setting brush screens to counteract it.

- Trey Edmonds in the second half forced us to play big. He has a grown man body. Hodge settled on a Lorient/Sissoko combination to match Garcia/Edmonds.

- An extended run with a Floyd/Walker/Massie/Lorient/Sissoko lineup including to close the game aside from situational subs. Before the season I would've been shocked that this lineup would close a win on the road against a Big Ten school because of the offense.  The spacing was predictably an adventure. Massie wasn't efficient but he kind of made the lineup 'work'. He shows handling, passing, and court awareness in the half court. Feels like he could turn into a secondary ball handler in lineups.

- Atin Wright had a meh game by his standards, but still really excited about him this season. He's a bit of a showman and I love it. After getting fouled in transition, he slapped the ball away from the defender and stared at him. On Lorient's massive jam at the end of the game, you can see him standing over Edmonds (who was on the ground).

Congrats to all! I wasn't able to view or listen to the game but read that Minnesota had 3 guys out. Were they starters, reserves or both?

Mike Mitchell Jr. was out. He's a starter and Minnesota could've really used his shooting. Not as familiar with the other players but they're reserves.

 - Dello is that dude. we won't win many games with him as our leading scorer, but he does EVERYTHING for this team
 - Lorient has more game than I assumed and I love his work ethic (eff it, I kinda loved him getting a T right after Garcia did)...I don't fully trust his decision making, but happy he was the !!! on the game...he earned it.
 - Massie is fearless and I love it. no, that wasn't at all an efficient game, but he clearly backs himself so much.
 - I'm still very keen on Wright and not at all worried about a quiet showing tonight
 - Floyd/Jossell just dropped a 7:2 A:T ratio.
 - honestly...was surprised Stone didn't touch at all in the 2nd half bc I thought he pestered the hell out of Garcia in the first. maybe it was just trusting BL more, but I thought Matt had a good game
- if someone offered me 6 and 6 from Sissoko for the rest of the year, I'd snap their arm off at the offer.

This game was a big data point for the Massie over Newell position!

Meanwhile we finished higher than Minnesota in NET last year. Actually they haven't finished higher than us since 2020. Was this post on Twitter?

I don't think Floyd's in-bounds pass to set up the poster is getting enough love.  It was PERFECT.  A lot could have gone wrong with it.

from reading their board, another key transfer Tyler Cochran was also hurt...averaged 14.5ppg last year for a 20 win Toledo squad. you can only play who's in front of you, though

ya...Newell so far just doesn't seem to do much save for be 6'9"...he's an ok shooter, an ok defender, an ok rebounder...he's starting to give Hamir Wright vibes. he's well under his Cal averages (though, those were some bad Cal teams)...hopefully he finds a bit more footing over the next few games, but currently I'm for either Massie or Lorient at the 4

I'll say that I noticed this team has more attitude than previous years. Before teams would ignore other's taunting or stare downs, but these players embrace it. Even Sissoko who seems like a gentle giant stared down his guy.
