The Fall 2023-2024 Fact Sheet states there are 6,419 beds in the residence halls.

"Housing (Campus): Fall 2023: 6,419 beds in 15 residence halls; no married/family housing; no staff
housing; (Includes Bruce Hall, Clark Hall, Crumley Hall, Honors Hall, Joe Greene Hall, Kerr Hall, Legends Hall,
Maple Hall, McConnell Hall, Mozart Square Hall, Rawlins Hall, Santa Fe Square, Traditions Hall, Victory Hall, and
West Hall)"

https://institutionalresearch.unt.edu/images/factsheet_2023-2024.pdf

So if ~6,500 are in the residence halls, are the remaining ~22,500 in University owned or controlled apartments?

Yes.

Based on the crowd noise on the Deuce, I would have thought we had more in the Super Pit, but with 3,924 in attendance, we missed what would have been our fourth greater than 4K game in a row.  Honestly, out of the three games of Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State, I would have picked Wichita State as the bigger draw, but what do I know?

We continue to creep up on the season average which now stands at 3,422.  Unfortunately that's still down an average of 710 or 17.18% per game.  One more home game this season versus Charlotte.  Would be nice to crack the 4K number one more time.

The game got sloppy at times, but I guess we can do ugly better than others can do ugly and we were able to squeeze out the win.  Let's finish strong and roll through the conference tournament.

At this point this year is a wash for attendance. I don't care how bad the schedule fell, an attendance drop of 700 per game for a conference championship contender is unacceptable. I had been led to believe a huge push was going to be made to make Wichita State this year's SMU game.

They aren't pushing for anything. This needs to be addressed by fans in all channels. Pathetic.

It is what it is. Nothing ever changes, win or lose. The administration/AD knows they have all those student fees and that's enough for them. On the rare occasion where we have a bigger crowd, everyone freaks out and usually end up losing. The attendance issues are varied, but across the board, I do think that the NIL/Portal crap is wearing down on the people who used to love the sport and now see how its tearing the sport apart. Superconferences don't help, either. Folks know that the SEC, B1G, Big 12, ACC, and Big East will always get the preferential treatment and that schools like ours are basically playing for NIT berths unless we win our conference. People get tired of that...not just here, either.

This team deserves so much more than they've gotten from the entire university for how much success they've had this season. But the players and coaches know their payoff is coming in the future--somewhere else up the foodchain.

I feel like ridiculously is a little strong for me personally but I do agree with the overall point you are trying to make here.

45,000 students

200,000+ local alumni

Almost 160,000 Denton population

Less than 4,000 in attendance is ridiculously ridiculous for a team of this caliber

A few weeks ago I penciled in 4,200 for this game...was just going with a simple round number.  Turned out I was only off by 1 as 4,199 attended the season finale at the Super Pit.  Those that attended were treated to Atin Wright's 42 point performance which is the best this year in the AAC and just 1 shy of the all-time AAC single game scoring record.  As we know, we had one more home game this season compared to last season.  In total, 55,531 came out this season to watch the men rack up a 15-1 home court record.  At 4,199, the final game was the second-highest attended game this year only behind the 5,032 that came out for UTSA (I guess we really don't like those guys).   We had 5 games (almost a third) with attendance in excess of 4K and 1 in excess of 5K.  In comparison, last season we had 7 games in excess of 4K with three of those over 5K.

In terms of averages, we had 3,471 attend per game which was down 661 or 16.01% per game.  Was hoping for some YoY growth given the momentum this program has been building, but without that big draw game and a missing-in-action marketing and promotional effort during our traditional slow period, it wasn't meant to be.   I'll have a season wrap-up post with some additional thoughts in a few days.

Sure it's at least kinda understandable we dropped from last season with no SMU, but being that far off the prior two years makes little sense.

Does the athletic department collect and/or report student attendance at the games?  I'm wondering if there was a dropoff there, and if so, how much?

I think one reason for a drop in attendance is that we lost so many players off of last years team, including some long time players like Rubin Jones and Aaron Scott.  One of the nice things about college sports is watching players grow and progress from one season to the next, and the transfer portal is really putting a crimp in that.

Win or lose, our attendance is ridiculously poor.

I still think it falls on the students.

Looking at the arena it appears to be 15% (or less) students and 85% non-students.

Pitiful support for their school.

This is a take based solely on TV viewing (I’m not local) - students were great in years past and confusingly absent this year. Viva la pit crew - should’ve never changed the name.

Maybe we should have insisted on a money-back guarantee from that consulting group contracted a few years ago to help generate engagement and attendance from the student body.

It is not for a lack of trying. The Maniacs leader works his ass off, but the marketing department hasn't seemed to figure out what's going to incentivize the students.

Does Jared know of this?
