First ingredient is winning. Then the AD has to vigorously market. Every day the athletic department has to be looking to increase attendance in some form or fashion. Our people do not do that. Not even close. Figure it out.

Do you attend?  If so, ever invite/bring others and make fans?  If not, why not?

Last year was actually the highest average (4,132) in 50 years. Kinda sad.

You have to also consider who the conference opponents were in those 50 years.   Last year we had $mut in conference, plus a better overall conference than before being in the AAC.  The lame OOC games never help attendance and the AD needs to work on that.

Good scheduling helps attendance, that's for sure. And I believe we had decent scheduling. I also believe bringing up scheduling in a conversation on poor attendance is just copium. We have fans, that when marketed to, show up.

The number 1 target should always be students. Do WHATEVER it takes to make UNT basketball/athletics the thing to come out and enjoy EVERY HOME GAME. Not just when athletic dept personnel are in the mood to work. Can we sit here and say the athletic department is doing even an average job here? Or are we sitting here asking if fans that live 1400 miles away if they attend or not? Right, @UNTLifer

12,400 announced at Providence today, who came into the game with a record of 9-10. Providence is about the same distance to Boston as Denton is to Dallas.

Providence does have the state capitol thing going for it though.  I have family in Rhode Island and they're pretty provincial despite their closeness to Boston.

Providence is 50 miles from Boston but it's a lot more rural between them.  Providence (190K) is a little larger than Denton (155K), but more isolated, like Gainesville instead...detached from the DFW metro area.

They also play in the Big East and a history of playing Brand basketball programs.

I wish we had a conference with basketball schools like:

Boston College, Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's, Syracuse, and Creighton.

We are not a program (yet) with a culture of self-support, regardless of opponent.  Sorry, the opponent, or meaningful circumstance of playing the opponent, does matter for our attendance.

As you mentioned, students, and marketing to all fans, is the key going forward.  Basketball seems to be largely on self-serve with this AD.  Besides the lure of t-shirts to students (lame), what else has been done to attract them around campus?

Signage around campus saying "game tonight..be there!!", Frisbee dogs at halftime, free food coupons, half-court shot for $$, drawing to sit on the bench for second half of the game, etc?

On the ESPN MBB page tonight, video...

"BYU fan drains half-court shot to ignite hometown fans"

Student attendance was very disappointing.

Yeah... how big are the student sections? Like, 500 each? We need 2% of our student body to fill up the lower level of our student section. Lol. Seems like very, very low hanging fruit...

Did the students have a marketing incentive to attend today's game?

The alumni filled in to best the showing from Wednesday night, but the students were missed.

Overall I thought the crowd was pretty lively in the second half. Got a couple of "North! Texas!" chants going and the in-game host actually let us do our thing before going into the stupid dice game near the end.

3,715 and what, maybe 200 students (not counting cheer, dance and pep band members), showed up and witnessed a clinical take down of our recent nemesis in the second half as the Mean Green pulled away for a 77-64 victory over FAU. Oops, two years removed from a final four appearance FAU (time flies).  In contrast, we had 4,551 show up to see us play FAU last year.

We are starting to run out of them (or are we?), but I supposed this week's excuse is the NFL playoffs.  We are down 733 or 19.09% compared to the first 11 home games last year and down 1,024 or 24.8% compared to last year's full year average.  We have 5 home games left this season.  In the final 5-game stretch last year we averaged 4,809 (4,316, 5,689, 5,247, 4,241 and 4,551).  In comparison, our highest attended game so far this year is 4,029 (780 less) for Temple.

Next home game is UTSA on 2/1/2025.  Last year we had 5,247 attend the UTSA game.  Can we get that this year?  This team deserves better.

Would be disappointed if we have less than 5K for the UTSA game. The tailgate needs to be marketed to students and especially the Greeks as an excuse to get their letters out on the lawn. Give them signs that read NUTSACK for the game.

No CFP or NFL playoffs. Come on people!!

Yeah I wouldn't compare us to the Big East. Basketball is only game in town there and as another poster said there's a history there.

Yeah, should we beat Wichita State, given our record  it'd be somewhat insulting to the guys to not get 5K out for UTSA, who many like to think of as a rival.  In fact, I'll be disappointed if it's not more like 5500.

Note: I'll likely be disappointed.

I did attend when I was local. And I did bring people, yes.

Thanks.  I hate not being close enough to attend the games.  I will only get to attend one home game this year because of  how the schedule fell.

Yeah. It's frustrating. I'll be coming back to Denton/Denton area. For now, I attend when and where I can.

I realize we're probably not going to buy out Mosley's contract, but he better be out after 2027. He's just absolutely awful at his job.

Honestly. He sort of actually is. It's embarrassing.

Going from Baker to Mosley isn't like going from McCasland to Hodge. There wasn't a reason, to my knowledge, to make such a lazy hiring choice when Baker left.

He needs to start doing his job or he needs to go.
