Temple kinda proves my point though (and if you of watched the game on TV, there wasn't anyway they had 2900 against Tulane, maybe half of that). Huge crowd against a Top 25 opponent, but have a tougher time when it's not. When Temple had some of their great teams under Chaney, they routinely drew awesome...but they were also making the Sweet 16 or Elite 8.
I have had season tickets in Section 107 for over 25 years. Students regularly come and sit in the section. In at least 50% of the games that I have attended over the years I have had to chase students out of my seats. In every game I can remember there have been students occupying seats in that section. Many students pay little attention to the location of student seating.
Last night two individuals, apparently students, wearing Maniac Jerseys sat in row one of 107 and were chased out by the season ticket holder for those seats. They relocated to seats a few Rows up that were unoccupied. They did not cheer, they seemed annoyed when fans in front of them stood up to cheer or chant and were for the most part very passive.
Temple drew 5700 to Memphis before us on a Thursday night, but then only 2900 last Sunday afternoon, but the NFL Philly Eagles were in town playing. Previous home game was vs Wichita State on Jan 3 drew 3600.
Temple has a long history of being an elite college basketball program, but up and down recently.
My 0.02: There's such a disconnect between our marketing team and the outside world - for a lot of reasons - that most people still don't know about what's going on in FB/MBB/WBB.
In that sense, the "horse to water" metaphor doesn't really apply. Unless you want to say they still don't know that there is water in front of them.
