Not looking good for Wren

Not sure why Neal Brown is Wren's fault.....he didn't hire him. But like Jason said....one fan's opinion on "X" doesn't really mean much.

Wren was adverse to firing anyone while at UNT, so now he is finding WVU actually wants accountability. Can not always just let contracts run out when firing should have happened

Agree.

Wren's first rookie mistake at NT as an AD was letting Benford stay for his 5th year as men's basketball coach.   He did find a nice replacement after finally firing Benford the next year, but it should have happened sooner.  Same for keeping Seth too long.  It's like he didn't want to fire anyone under contract.

As for Wren leaving NT for WVU, I thought he would move up eventually.  But that job location is a difficult place to make fans happy.  Don't enter the Portal and take the NIL without considering the warnings!

UNT didn't have the money to buy Benford out. If Seth had beaten UTSA the second time that season he could still be here. It's easy to fire someone when you are not the one doing it.

Ya that was weak on the Benford part

One deranged fan's opinion does not make a good basis for decisions.

I might add, this deranged fan is a Syracuse fan, not even a WVU fan.  No idea whether or not Wren has anything to worry about, but he certainly does not need to worry about this silly video.

Still, he didn't have to let Benford stay in charge.  An Interim coach would have done a better job, or even a Fan out of the stands.

Yes, he was a nice guy, and probably a fine assistant, but not a good head coach.

Johnny Jones left our basketball program with 6 straight winning seasons, 18-14 his last year.

Tony Benford went 12-20 his first year, never had a winning season (62-95 overall), and finished 8-22 his final season that Wren wouldn’t fire him.  🔥

As I said before UNT didn't have the $500,000 needed to fire him.

Plus McCasland was not available when Wrenn was hired. Saying we should have fired Bedford when Wrenn was means no McCasland! McCasland's time here more than made up for an extra year of Bedford.

Isn't that the exact amount we paid to buy McCasland out of his contract at Arkansas State?

I don't know but doubt it. We did pay one of the North Carolina schools $100,000 to buy Karen Ashton out of her contract. She stayed at UNT one year before getting the top job at Texas. Ashton was fired mainly because she couldn't get past Baylor. She has been at UTSA the last few years.

I'm pretty sure Texas reimbursed us the $100,000 which was part of her contract with us.

It was paid, that is $500,000, although we delayed it until it was absolutely necessary.

I think McCasland was only at ArkSt for a year, so they got him from the lower ranks the year we should have fired Benford. So technically, he was available.
