Starting an Alumni Group in Atlanta

Recommended Posts

I live in Atlanta and want to start alumni events. We are located close to a lot of our road game opponents (Birmingham, Charlotte, Tampa, Boca Raton, Greenville). ATL is an amazing airport that has flights to every away game. I moved here recently for work and hung out with the South Carolina alumni to just meet people.

I would love some advice on how to organize this. Mailing lists, social media, chapter organization, etc. I plan to soft launch some events this spring (basketball watch parties, volunteering, activities), but I am planning a more concrete organization going into Fall 2025.

If you live in the area, please reach out!

I like that you are doing this independently of the official alumni association.  They will want to get a big chunk of your budget.

Sounds great, Mat. I live in Spalding County GA.

Hey Rex, thanks for following up again. I reached out via email to the alumni association a week ago. I am going to call them or forward my email to another person.

What type of events would you like to see?

1. Shuttles to away games (UAB, Charlotte)

2. Dinners, Local Activities, Watch parties

3. Host UNT speaker

I like the idea of traveling to do-able games such as UAB and Charlotte and shuttle would be fun. I wish UGA, Ga Tech, Ga State, or even Kennesaw State would schedule us for basketball. Watch parties would be fun. I'm not too keen on night driving (have to remind myself every now and then I'm 81). Thanks for taking this on!
