As previously mentioned, the team from the American will play against a current or former member of the Pac-12 due to preexisting contracts. The pool will consist of current Pac-12 teams Oregon State and Washington State and the following former Pac-12 schools — Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Utah, and Washington.

In other words, it will be most likely that the AAC representative will play a Big 10 or Big 12 team.

Me likey.

I can't see the AAC fulfilling our bowl obligations as it is. The conference current has 9 programs with losing records.

But given the choice, I'd much rather North Texas play in the Independence Bowl than endure another trip to Frisco or the First Responders at SMU.

I would think Tulane gets Independence Bowl.

I would love to play in the Independence Bowl, but there may be some folks in high places who prefer something closer to home that will keep the expenses down.

I suspect the conference and ESPN will work with the schools to get teams into games that will generate the best crowds and best publicity possible.

This is why we will stay local (DFW) if no P5 team is coming.

No one will watch us on TV so ESPN and any bowl out of DFW won’t be excited to have us, so they are likely to try to position us to get butts in seats. 2013 was a good example of how we can turn out locally.

The Frisco Bowl is garbage, and no one wants to play our bowl game at SMU. Our attendance at the two Frisco Bowls were terrible. The bowl feels small time and our attendance reflects that. We need to play somewhere else.

Here are my priorities this year. A bowl win would change these in 2025:

1. A bowl we can win
2. A bowl location, date and time fans can show up to
3. A P4 opponent

The " Denton Bowl " vs TCU, and the fans vote on the day of the week the game is to be played and kickoff time, plus the 1st 10,000 to show up get in free.

Our attendance was bad because the team wasn't good. There is a ZERO percent chance we'd have more fans at the Independence Bowl than Frisco.

I don’t know why they even have these conference tie ins anymore. They don’t stick to it anyway after ESPN tells them what teams to put in the games.

It was different when there weren’t as many games and 6-win teams got left out of bowls every year. Conference tie ins were important 20+ years ago because it meant if your conference had more tie ins, then you had a better shot of getting a bowl game and not getting left out. But now there are always 5-win teams that get a bowl game.

Bowls also don't mean as much to players as they used to.  We had our best RB opt out of our last Bowl loss, waiting for an NFL invite.  Multiple players now also just opt out waiting for the portal to open.  Bowl teams are not usually the same quality as your season-ending team (just ask Florida State).
