My problem with SL was that, as a general rule, we weren’t competitive against good teams.  Yes, we usually beat the bad teams which is great, but we got spanked most of the time when we played a good team.

Losses by 20+ points/total losses

2016: 5/9

2017: 4/5

2018: 1/4

2019: 3/8

2020: 5/6

2021: 3/7

2022: 4/7

Under SL, 25 of our 46 losses (54%) were by 20+ points.

Things under EM just don’t seem similar to that in my opinion.

So far EM has 3 of those in 19 games (15%).  So you think 15% and 54% are similar?

Frustrating loss! Really felt like it was winnable through the 3rd quarter and then Memphis got smart and went back to the run. Still drinking the green flavorade this morning, Tulane almost shit the bed against Rice this weekend, we can get these guys at home.

I love a guy who knows his history. It was never Kool-Aid.

Bigger sample size with SL. This is still unknown.

True, but pick any 19 game stretch* of SL’s tenure and the ass-whipping % is much higher than EM.

*I say 19 game stretch because that’s how many games EM has coached here.

Great perspective. Hopefully there will be a terrific turn out this Saturday. The team deserves it. I'll be there!

About the list of available players -- I get that you were using an old depth chart (Lott, Spruiells, etc.) to illustrate a valid point. Evan Jackson and Taylor Starling played last night though. Evan wasn't out there after the first defensive series, so I assume he got injured again. Ugh. There have been so many injuries on offense this season. It has been difficult figuring out who is injured and who has been benched at times. I thought Zach Evans was hurt again until he was playing at the end of the Tulsa game. Braydon Nelson started at LT out of nowhere against Memphis, but Larry Moore was on the PAT team. Eric must have been shuffling the line again. I'll just keep guessing.

I think Eric will fix the defense this off-season. He really wants to win.

Wasn't he supposed to do that last off-season?

I think we got some defense transfers, but preseason injuries took off the DL depth. Also, we needed to restock on offense. We got picked clean on that side.

Losses are losses and Morris has never beaten a team with a winning record.

In other words, "Losses are losses, but wins are not necessarily wins"?

I was replying mostly to his original point:

”My problem with SL was that, as a general rule, we weren’t competitive against good teams.  Yes, we usually beat the bad teams which is great, but we got spanked most of the time when we played a good team.”

I was pointing out that we are still losing all the most meaningful games, even if my somewhat less.

I want everything at once, too. NIL changed the World going into this season. We had low funds, and Eric was initially set up for high school recruiting—we had preseason injuries. Plus, everyone says Caponi is on a two-year contract. It is only money.

I sure as heck would not want to be a head coach in this environment.

Yes and no.  Of course a loss is a loss if you’re talking about conference standings, etc., but losing by 8 when you were a 12 point underdog is way better than losing by 28 when you were a 12 point underdog in my opinion.  There were a lot of “I’m embarrassed to wear a UNT shirt” moments with SL, not so much with EM.  Maybe I’m alone on an island, but I’d rather be competitive than get blown out.
