The off-season can’t get here fast enough

Recommended Posts

What?   Yep.

- We won’t make the conference championship.
- We’ll probably go bowlin with no guarantee of being successful.
- Games will continue to be unnecessarily stressful

The immediate future of our program hinges on a decision with the DC. Make a change, outlook could be promising.  Stand pat and we’ll continue to struggle, be frustrated and  recruiting could be impacted.

I, for one, am ready for a change.  But more so ready to see if a change will be made.  Only Morris knows how he really feels about the present and future.

Okay, just for grins, I put together this chart of the 5 teams that sorta' think they've got a chance at the CCG and to keep our green glasses on for another week.

Yes, it's a big "if" in assuming we win out, but we aren't out of it even though we've got the toughest road ahead of anybody on the list.

So, right now, you've got Memphis, Tulane, Army, Navy, and NT.
The expectation is Army-Navy in the CCG which is likely.  Also, the expectation that we win out is pretty slim, but that's why we're fans!

Now, assuming all of these teams beat all of the other unlisted teams in their remaining games, i.e.  no spoiler games from ECU, UTSA, etc., then if the following wins/losses happen, here's what you have (assuming I didn't make a mistake which is definitely possible)

image.png.a2b44baa77be36739fe9b35af0bd5390.png

  So, the CCG is either:
Navy(0) vs NT(1)  since we have the head-to-head win over Army
OR (if Tulane beats Navy), then you have 4 teams with 1 loss:  Navy,  Army, Tulane, NT
      Navy L to Tulane
      Tulane L to NT
      Army L to NT
      NT L to Memphis

With NT having victories over 2 of the teams, I would think we'd get in.
Memphis beat us, so I guess they would be the other team???

I don't know if AAC uses national ranking as part of the selection process, so that might play into the picture.

If the second scenario played out, it'd be funny for both Army and Navy to get pushed out of the CCG with each having only 1 conf loss!

I think fans are infuriated with the fact that we only beat bad teams.....

Hopefully we can mustard up a win against Tulane before the bye week

I'm bummed we lost but we've faced exactly two not bad teams this season so far. One was a comedy of errors that ended in embarrassment, but the other came down to the last play. We can't beat good teams with a defense this bad, but luckily we don't have to play a lot of good teams this season. Even if we finish out the year 3-2 we're still a bit improved from last season.

I get what you’re saying and I don’t mean to come across as “Old Denton,” but a key point is that we are beating the bad teams…handily.

Army has only beaten bad teams and look where it’s gotten them.

We could finish the season 8-5 and not beat a team over .500 and go to a bowl. Better enjoy it. Who knows what the portal and NIL will bring after this season...Just hope Chandler stays for his last season.

I remember another coach who accomplished the same thing. 🤔

Now, we will see if the bowl ends up the same way.

This is basically my complaint. Obviously I am happy we win the “easy” ones but we have to win the tough, meaningful matchups or we just wasted our money to hire the same result. Morris is a lot more energetic and that’s a good thing. But I honestly preferred to be a top rushing team if we were going to keep not playing defense.

Do you guys realize most of the schools at the G5 level get most of their wins from teams with losing records? I'm just making sure everyone understands the reality here.

Ranked in order of AAC standings -

1. Army - 7-0 with 1 win against a team with a winning record - FCS Lehigh

2. Navy - 6-0 with 1 win against a team with a winning record - Memphis

3. Tulane - 5-2 with 1 win against a team with a winning record - Louisiana

4. Memphis 6-1 with 1 win against a team with a winning record which was us!

5. Charlotte was 3-4 with 0 wins against teams with a winning record

6. NT - 5-2 with 0 wins against teams with a winning record

7. ECU - 3-4 with 0 wins against teams with a winning record

I will stop researching the rest of AAC as you can see no G5 teams beat many teams with winning records. If we can beat either Tulane or Army, we'll be right there in with the same number of wins - one - against teams with winning records.

This is a great point. Never really looked at other teams' schedules this close.

Oh god make it stop. This is yet another low level bowl team that can’t beat any team worth beating.

Take my suggestion be like thousands of UNT alums and find another team to support.

Obvious, supporting a 5-2 team with one conference loss to the pre-season favorite away is too much for you.

Settle down, drama queen. No one is saying to not support the team or the university. God forbid a fan have a realistic outlook on this squad and not only think that we are the greatest team of all time. 🙄
Morris might figure it out in time but the stats and the history so far don’t support that optimism. I WANT us to win out but Morris hasn’t give me a reason to believe it possible.
Plus 27 years of being beat down as a fan here doesn’t help. So spare me with the t-shirt fan “suggestion” and get off your high horse.
