Serious question. Is it a lack of NIL funds that we cant/won't sign defensive players? Is all available money going to the offense? We don't have any playmakers on defense. They're all on the offensive side.

I feel like the spread itself doesn't lend itself to hitting/tackling in practice, as well as the fact that Texas HS Football has become glorified 7-on-7 for years (thanks Mike Leach), so this shows up really big for a team at our level, where our quality Dc's and talents just gets poached away every year.

yes, it sucks that 44 points were not enough. But if you have 130 yards more than the opponent and lose by 8, more than just the defense went wrong. Like in-game coaching decisions for example.

that fact is going to be glaring in the next 2 games....

Neither has Army. Their 6 FBS wins are against the bottom of the AAC. A combined 12-30. The 7th win is against 3-3 Lehigh. Maybe we can ease up on the Army fear.

Have you watched them though? We definitely should fear them with our defense.

Admittedly I have not. My question to you is how much of that falls on the teams they've played? We've seen what 2-5 looks like over the years. We know how bad a team has to be on all sides of the ball to go 2-5. They've played 4 teams who are 2-5, one who's 1-6 in UAB, and ECU who just fired their coach. We'd be undefeated with their schedule too.

It's really hard to say. I get your point. The option against our defense is really what I am most afraid of. They have a QB now too. It's not just running.

Yeah I agree. And the thing with the academies is they usually play mistake-free on offense. Having a QB just adds opportunity to force mistakes in my opinion but they've been great in that realm so far. They're also very physical no matter the size difference with typical FBS programs. It'll definitely be a test.

UH is 15th in the BigXII.  That seem impossible.

We punched our ticket to the P4 already.

UNT has been given a million chances to grab the brass ring but fumbles every time, so don't get mad at me for pointing out the obvious.

You're 2-5, only punching air this year!

Losing 42-14 to a 1-5 Kansas team, really?  LOL

I was going to make a smart a** reply but then I looked at the numbers.....

in rushing defense:

We're tied for #87 (w/UNC) out of 132

Army's opponents:

FAU: # 120

Rice: #82

Temple: #123

Tulsa: #76

UAB: #132

ECU: #98

Now, I'm too lazy to factor in Army's games against them and the affect they obviously had on their rushing defense stats...

But if Army rushes for 400 yards against us (they're averaging 359)....that would raise our average from 160 per game to 190 per game...ranking wise: down to around 112.

So kind of in the middle of that pack.

....so......now I'm not really sure what all that means.

That game's gonna be hard.

The key to Army's offensive success is its aversion to committing turnovers. It's also something our defense is bad at forcing. In 7 games, Army has turned the ball over a grand total of 1 time. If we can win the turnover battle, I think we'll win. Had we won the turnover battle against Memphis, we'd probably have won. Not exactly a controversial idea but we need to win that battle against good teams.

2-5 in a P4 conference with this week's Homecoming game against Utah with games against Kansas State, Baylor, Arizona and BYU coming up.

We're losing in a rebuilding year but it's against teams people care about.

Remind me who UNT's homecoming game is against.

Do people care about who Houston is playing? Your biggest crowd of the year was against Rice at 28k. You barely crossed 25k against a good Iowa State team.
